Michele McGannPRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

By the looks of things - it seems all the EWGALI members are having a great summer signing up for all the events/leagues the chapter offers. The month of July was filled with clinics at Harbor Links, Eisenhower and Oyster Bay.  Chris Sedlacek, ran yet another spectacular outing this time at Rockville Links.  The weather was perfect and everyone had a wonderful time.  Chris' committee worked very hard to make the day run perfect and everyone had fun. The hand painted rocks by Wendy were a nice touch!!!
In July we also had our Chapter Championship at Tall Grass.  This was the second year that Ellen Cohen ran the championship and she did a wonderful job.  There was a last minute change of venue due to The Links at Shirley closing so we went back to Tall Grass.  There were a lot of challenges that came to Ellen and the championship committee of Chris Sedlacek, Suzanne Garcia and Patrice Franco.  They managed to work things out and provide our chapter with an exciting championship.  Congratulations to Yong Park who was the Overall Chapter Champion.  Also a sincere thanks to Ellen for all her hard work on this event - one that she is not allowed (EWGA rule) to participate!!!!
The month of July finished with the Inaugural Champions Cup in NJ.  This event was run by Patrice Franco and Janet Mallon who worked for months on the details.  It was an exciting event that challenged low handicappers from different chapters to compete in a two day match play event.  The good news is that the event was successful and the Long Island Chapter won the "cuppie".   Thank you again for the concept and giving our lower handicappers another option of play.
Enjoy the rest of the summer and good luck at the league championships!!!!

LATEST LEAGUE NEWS:

I hope you are enjoying League play at one or more of our 13 leagues.  We are a hardy group dealing with sweltering heat and humidity, so make sure you come prepared each week to stay hydrated and cool.

Well, it seems we blinked and here we are in August with the League Championships under way.  Everyone is eligible to participate in their home course tournament.  Only home course members of Harbor Links Executive, Cantiague, Heartland, Heatherwood and Cherry Creek may participate in their League Championship tournaments.  You are eligible to play in any secondary leagues at the remaining leagues if you've played at least six times during the regular season.  If not, you may still play a round for fun.

The Match Play Leagues are going strong and the competition is fierce for those remaining points.
I wish you all the best of luck!

Please make sure to SAVE THE DATE for our End of League Dinner which will be held on Tuesday, September 28th!  This event is a wonderful way to wind down the season and share in the festivities of the awards ceremony.  You never know, there could be a trophy waiting for you!  Look for the official invitation to come sometime in the beginning of September.

Happy Golfing!

LONG ISLAND VICTORIOUS IN THE INAUGURAL
EWGA CHAMPIONS CUP!

Ok - the cat is out of the bag ... or better yet - The Champions Cup is out for display on Long Island! As you see, Long Island was victorious in the Inaugural EWGA Champions Cup!!!

We can't even begin to tell you how amazing a weekend it turned out to be! Janet did such an amazing job for months with all of the heavy lifting, the never ending email communications and questions, and arrangements with the courses. Once the moment was here, as a Team it just all came together perfectly!

So ... As for the Tournament itself, we have to say ... While we emerged victorious, it really was a grinding battle! Long Island was the #1 "seed", and played the #8 seed in round 1. Most of our ladies had to give 8, 9, 10 or 11 shots to their opponents! The odds were more against us than in our favor, but when all 12 matches came in ... We got the minimum 6 1/2 points necessary to advance to round 2...whew!
In round 2 we gave a few less shots, but played a much stronger team of Westchester and ... Yes ... Our other Long Island ladies! Not easy competing against your fellow chapter members, but it was a great round and we emerged victorious with 7 points.

In the finals, we played Washington/Central NJ who was probably the toughest team to beat - and once again, we earned 7 points, securing victory and being crowned the Inaugural Champions Cup Champions!!! And more good news, the Westchester/Long Island team II finished in 3rd place!

Congratulations to ALL of our LI ladies who competed in this great event ... Janet and I are so proud of each and every one of you!

Here's to retaining the Cup in 2011 !!!

The "Vision" is to have the EWGA National Match Play Championship in addition to the current EWGA National Championship as our Organizations second official major national competition. This event is for advanced players, the lowest 16 handicaps of our chapter who expressed an interest in playing were chosen.

BOARD NEWS:  LEADERSHIP

WATCH YOUR EMAIL FOR THE 2011 BALLOT/SLATE AND REMEMBER TO VOTE

Being a Chapter board member or committee volunteer is a meaningful way to contribute to the Chapter decisions and operations and help carry out our mission. Yes, it takes a commitment, but the reward is tremendous! Please consider making a leadership commitment.

While it is not mandatory to have served as a Board member in order to run for Executive Office, it is preferable that nominees should have acted as volunteer leaders in an impactful way, either as Committee Chairs, Committee Finance Captains, Tournament Directors or through some other significant active committee participation. All nominees will be reviewed by the Nominating Committee as to their qualifications.

Many of us joined the organization without knowing anyone in EWGA. The friendships we have made and the lives we have touched have been amazing rewards for such a minimal contribution. I hope you will join us in sharing that experience.

Sincerely,
Patrice Franco

NEWS FROM NATIONAL:
20th Anniversary EWGA Foundation Cookbook Fundraiser: Be Part of EWGA History in the Making

In 2011, the EWGA will turn 20!  As this anniversary year approaches, we are incorporating several elements into this occasion which includes a celebration of our important milestone as well as a special fundraiser for the EWGA Foundation.  As a member of the EWGA family, we're inviting you to particiate in a commemorative cookbook, "Recipes for Success - On and Off the Course" that we are compiling with the help of EWGA members.  We will debut the finished product at the Golfpalooza Annual Conference event at Amelia Island Plantation (April 13-16, 2011), with all proceeds going to the EWGA Foundation.

Almost everyone has a favorite recipe, often loved as much for the memories as for its taste.  And as EWGA members, we're no different except - perhaps - that we look for things that can be quick and easy to serve after a round of golf with friends or busy day at the office.  Have you found a few great recipes that are perfect for busy women on the go?  We want to hear from you!

If you have a family specialty or one that is simply your 'go to' recipe, we invite you to be part of the EWGA Foundation's "Recipes for Success". You are the reason the EWGA is able to celebrate this milestone and we want you to be part of it!

It's easy.  Simply download this 'Recipes for Success - On and Off the Course'  Submission Form, fill out according to the instructions and mail, email or fax it back to us.  If you have any questions, call Molly at (561-691-0096 x 21 or send an email to: foundation@myewga.com.  Deadline to submit recipes for consideration is Wednesday, September 1, 2010.

Additional details regarding the EWGA Foundations Cookbook Fundraiser are posted online under the 'Learn More About EWGA' tab at ewga.com.
Please feel free to send Chapter News to news.ewgali@gmail.com.  We will make every effort to include your submissions.  All submissions are subject to editing and final submission is subject to approval by the EWGA LI Chapter Board.

Please do not send inquiries or general email to news.ewgali@gmail.com, this email address is accessed once a month to capture news for the newlsetter.
