PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

I know it 's hard to believe, but golf season is just around the corner.  Winter will soon be gone, and we'lll be dusting off our golf clubs and looking forward to another great season as EWGA Long Island Chapter members.

During these cold days of winter we have been really busy.  The entire board has been working really hard to plan and coordinate all the events that the chapter is offering in 2010.  We had two board meetings in January alone to put the gears in motion to get you the programs you like.  The committee chairs are busy meeting with their committees managing and delegating the voluminous duties the volunteers take on.  There will be something for everyone.  Thank you all for your hard work behind the scenes, and we look forward to seeing you all at the Tee Off Dinner on March 16 at Crest Hollow.

CREATIVITY TRUMPS ROYAL HI! TEE EVENT

Patrice tiara

There was a 'full house' at our first social event of the calendar year - Royal Hi! Tee - on Saturday, January 30th at the Garden City Hotel. This was the chapter's third annual high tea event, and as always, was a great opportunity to get out of the winter doldrums, see old friends and meet other chapter members in an entertaining and elegant setting.

Attendees were treated to the Garden City Hotel's Royal Tea service which welcomed all with a glass of champagne, a choice of one of eight freshly brewed teas, finger sandwiches, scones and crumpets, minature pastries and topped off with fresh strawberries and cream.

servingTo add to the festivities attendees were invited to wear their best 'royal' headwear in honor of the Royal Tea theme and in keeping with the popularity of last year's Mad Hatter event. All who donned headpieces were assigned a number and introduced to the room, after which all in attendance voted for their 'most unusual'and 'most unique' favorites. Creativity was the order of the day, with a wonderful array of crowns and tiaras, as well as unique hats. The competition

was the closest ever! Prizes were awarded to Bobbie Turner for Most Unusual with her 19th-Hole tiara and Vivian Zaffuto for Most Elegant for her Silver Club tiara.

Chapter vice president Susan Pickering was on hand to share highlights of upcoming events, and leadership committee chair Patrice Franco detailed the many current volunteer opportunities on various committees.  As you know, we run our chapter totally with volunteers and we're always looking for help, not only to keep things running smoothly, but to give our members ways to network more effectively with fellow members.
