MAD HATTER ~ Hi! TEE
Happy Valentine's Day.......... Valentine

And Get Ready for Golf Season!

The Tee Off Dinner is right around the corner on Monday, March 16.  Check the website for more information (click here for EWGA LI).  You should be receiving your invitation shortly, if you haven't already.  We're expecting a huge crowd, so please make your reservation early.

And please see the article in this month's issue from League Chair Liz Tobin.  There are some changes to this year's league information that you won't want to miss.

Upcoming Events:

February 11 - Business Networking

March 11 - Business Networking

March 13-15 - Golf Expo at Suffolk Community College; yes, we will have a booth!

March 16 - TEE OFF DINNER at Crest Hollow Country Club

Attention All League & Potential League Members!

I know it's cold; you're dealing with shoveling and wearing layers and those rubber-soled boots are still a staple, but here are some warm thoughts because spring is just around the corner.

The date for our Tee-Off Dinner is Monday, March 16th, so please keep checking the website for details.  That night will be your first opportunity to join League(s), along with an opportunity to rekindle friendships and find out about all the exciting events we have planned for you in 2009.

We are pleased to announce the addition of an intermediate/advanced league at the Harbor Links Championship Course which will be held on Tuesdays.

NEW procedures will be instituted this year!  In honor of our 10th Anniversary (can you believe it?!), we are REDUCING the security deposit required to join league.  You will no longer be required to pay 3 weeks' greens fees for each league joined.  A one-time fee of $50 entitles you to membership in an unlimited number of leagues.  This fee will roll over each year until you terminate your membership at which time you will receive a 100% refund.  In order for this to work, we are counting on the cooperation of all our members.

Please make sure to check the website for updated info on all league procedures.  There will be a new league handbook posted by the end of February.  New and returning members should be sure to familiarize themselves with all the rules and guidelines as there will be some changes.

Remember one very important thing: you must be a member of our national organization "EWGA" to participate in any of our events, leagues, etc.  Now is the time to make sure you are up to date with your annual dues by going to www.ewga.com and contacting membership to either join or renew your membership.

I still have many unclaimed trophies, which I will be bringing to the Tee-Off for distribution.  Please contact me if you'd like to make arrangements to collect yours prior to the Tee-Off.

I look forward to a great 2009 golf season.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

MEMBER NEWS
Congrats to LI Chapter member (and sponsor) Sue Rosenberg of AA All Country Driving School.  As a Mentor in the SWING Program in 2008, Sue was entered into a national pool along with other Mentors and Mentees throughout the season.  Four of each were randomly selected, and Sue was one of the chosen!  Each Mentor winner will be awarded a $250 gift certificate from S.W.I.N.G. program sponsor SWING by Bette & Court, and Mentee winners will receive a gift of golf goodies from various EWGA sponsors.  Way to go Sue!

The rewards for Mentoring in the SWING program are fantastic.  You get to help junior players build their confidence level on the course and meet some great women!  Each year we have several mentoring events and they're always popular.  Keep watching your email and this newsletter for opportunities to participate.

FREE Business Networking Meetings

So many members have responded positively to the FREE business networking events.....ARE YOU ONE OF THEM?  We know that a lot of you are looking for ways to expand your business relationships and this year we've put together a series of FREE business networking events to help you do that.  Each month we have a different venue hosted by an event sponsor.  The sponsor gets to promote their business and participants attend a brief workshop and then have an opportunity to practice their networking skills while meeting other EWGA members.  And light refreshments are provided!

Tomorrow evening's event is closed, but our next event is Wednesday, March 11.  Mark your calendar and watch for the invitation!

2009 MAD HATTER ~ Hi! TEE

A flurry of hats adorned the Polo Restaurant at The Garden City Hotel on Saturday January 10th, as an afternoon snow shower did not deter anyone from being late for EWGALI's Hi! Tee social date!

Our 10th Anniversary year got off to a Mad Hatter start with members donning an array of headwear from big to small, from hand-crafted to high-fashion designs. As members took their seats, tea orders were taken, and Royal Tea service began with a champagne toast. Attendees feasted on tea sandwiches, scones with cream, tea breads, miniature pastries and strawberries complimented with their personal pot of select tea.

Introductions were made of all the mad hatters and everyone voted for their favorites. Two prizes were awarded - one for the most creative hat and a second for the most chic. Members considered in the creative category put a lot of effort into their millinery creations. Winner Theresa Oropallo, Heatherwood Tee Times captain, replicated a golf hole - grass, hazards, flag and all - residing on a broad brimmed straw hat on her head. The most chic category award went to Harbor Links membership captain Paula Paterno. [Both pictured below with social committee volunteers Vivian Zaffuto and Maddy Cangemie.]

Chapter Vice President Jackie Meli-Rizzo shared chapter plans for two special 10th Anniversary year events - Golf The Musical theatre event on Sunday, February 8th at Adelphi, and a day of golf and followed by a celebratory Anniversary dinner at The Reckson Center at the Museums at Mitchel - Cradle of Aviation on Monday, July 27th. More details to follow.

In a true golf/mad hatter creation, leadership chair Patrice Franco, pictured above, rounded out the program with an invitation to all attendees to get more involved with chapter activities, describing the many volunteer opportunities available. It's not too late! If you're interested contact Patrice at pfranco72@aol.com.

Many thanks to the Garden City Hotel...nobody does a traditional high tea better, and social events committee members Maddy Cangemie, Penny Pinkerton-Bernstein and Vivian Zaffuto for their efforts pre-event and on-site.
