Superintendent Update - May 2012 Dr. Bob Morrison discusses the proposed 1:1 iPad program for high school campuses next year, updates on the new Center for the Performing Arts, the upcoming Senior Tour and graduation information for our students and parents.

Mansfield ISD invites residents who are 55 years of age and over to come aboard the inaugural Senior Tour to learn about the district and get to know Dr. Bob Morrison, Superintendent of Schools.  

 

The event will take place on May 24, and will include a walking tour of various campuses, entertainment by students and a closer look into today's academics. Learn more. 

2012 Teachers of the Year

The Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year finalists and winners were announced on May 10 at the annual Employee Reception. 

Congratulations to Catherine McGuinness, our Secondary Teacher of the Year, and Linda Zumwalt, the 2012 Elementary Teacher of the year!

The two winners will go on to compete in the Education Service Center Region XI Teacher of the Year competition and could potentially go on to compete for Texas Teacher of the Year. Read more.

May 25: Texas Rangers MISD Night

Mansfield ISD students, staff, family and friends are invited to spend an evening with the Texas Rangers on Friday, May 25, 2012. The MISD community is eligible for a savings of over 40% off regular price for our selected game. Plus, $2 from each ticket sold is donated back to the district. Learn more.

Best of luck to the Mansfield High School Varsity baseball team as they compete in Area Round playoff games this weekend.

Timberview sprinter Aldrich Bailey and Legacy thrower Shelbi Vaughan are headed to the UIL Class 5A State track meet this weekend. In addition, both athletes have qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials next month in Oregon. Mansfield HS Tiger Pride Awards    

 

The fourth annual Tiger Pride Awards brought a great turnout. This growing tradition featured 118 students being honored for having attributes of tiger pride. Assistant Principal, Mrs. Crane, who organizes this event, believes that the award is not just for the top of the class. Read more.  

 

Duke University Recognizes MISD Students 

Twenty-five Mansfield ISD seventh grade students were identified as eligible for the Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP). The students were among more than 63,000 academically-talented seventh graders that took the ACT or SAT through Duke TIP in late 2010 and early 2011. Read more.

DJMS Students Advance to State    

 

The Math/Science Academic UIL Team from Danny Jones Middle School sent 14 students to the state competition. The team was founded at Danny Jones in 2009 and has become an asset to the school. Read more.  

 

Mansfield HS Student Wins National Merit Scholarship   

Congratulations to Rayna L. Smith, from Mansfield High School, for being named a finalist for the $2,500 National Merit Scholarship. The designees were chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 outstanding finalists. Read more.

Thelma Jones Elementary Unity Program  

 

Thelma Jones Elementary School has completed its inaugural year of the TJE Unity Program. This exciting program has helped to build unity throughout the school by instilling a sense of community, acceptance and tolerance. Read more. 

 
Legacy HS Yearbook Editor Honored   

Congratulations to Bethanne Glover, from Legacy High School, for being named Texas Yearbook Editor of the Year at the 2012 Interscholastic League Press Conference (ILPC). The yearbook staff was awarded a Silver Star for this year's publication, and the newspaper staff received a Gold Star for the online newspaper, The Rider Online.

 

Summit HS Photo Gallery   

 

The Summit High School Photography Gallery night will be in the campus commons Tuesday, May 15, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. There will be over 200 photos on display, including the photos of student leaders. There will also be a silent auction if you would like to buy a photo. All proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Mansfield Memorial 5K Run/Walk:  
Spread the word about the 2nd Annual Mansfield Memorial Chipped and Sanctioned 5K Run/Walk! The event will take place on Saturday, May 26, at Katherine Rose Memorial Park. More details.   
 

 

High School Graduation Dates:

The 2012 graduation ceremonies are less than a month away! The schedule and event details are online.    

  

School Board Election:  

If you would like to vote in the election for School Board Trustees Place 1 & 2, voting will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 12. Additional information and polling locations are posted online here.

Texas Trust Spirit Card Design Contest:  

 

Mansfield we Wanted: YOUR Spirit and you delivered!

 

After 28,000 Facebook votes, Texas Trust Credit Union visited the high schools and surprised the winners of the Spirit Debit Mastercard Contest during the first week of May. The winners realized the good news when parents and principals entered their classrooms bearing balloons and a giant check. In addition to the Facebook votes 4 other judges from the district, city and community had the difficult task of choosing just one design for each school.

 

The winners received $250. When interviewed they said they would use the money for candy, text books and gas money. The sponsoring teachers received $50.

 

There were many wonderful designs. Thank you MISD for participating and voting. You can get these awesome, new cards at any Texas Trust Credit Union in a couple of weeks. Get your favorite and share your spirit with every swipe!
