Superintendent Update - February 2012
Dr. Bob Morrison discusses the new MISD Center for the Performing Arts, an update to changes in the STAAR EOC testing program, Kindergarten Round-up (Passport to Kindergarten) and contest season for many of the MISD programs.
Congratulations Summit Girls Basketball 4A State Champions

The Impact Award: February 2012

In January, Mansfield ISD launched a new "mission-minded" employee recognition award, The Impact Award.   

 

This award was established to recognize individual staff members or groups that have promoted teamwork and unity by initiating a program, project or event that made a positive impact within Mansfield ISD and the community. 

Superintendent Dr. Bob Morrison surprised the first Impact Award winner, John Tarrant (Media Tech Teacher from Ben Barber) on Friday, March 2. Check out the full article and video here.  

Important Schedule Reminders   

 

Don't forget, Mansfield ISD will be closed for Spring Break next week, March 12 -16.

 

Also, be sure to "Spring Forward" and set your clocks one hour ahead on Sunday, March 11.

Mansfield ISD Open House Dates   

 

As part of Celebrate Texas Public Schools, each Mansfield ISD campus will host an open house during the week of March 19.  

  • Monday, March 19: Elementary & High Schools  
  • Tuesday, March 20: Middle Schools
  • Thursday, March 22: Intermediate Schools

Student Recognition Spotlight

 

Mansfield High Schools Student Council

Congratulations to the MHS Student Council for receiving the sweepstakes award from the Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC). This award means that TASC recognizes MHS Student Council as an outstanding student council based on the amount of projects completed throughout the year. This is the first time for MHS Student Council to receive this award.

  

Energy Star Campuses Named 


The following campuses received the ENERGY STAR award and were recognized at the February School Board Meeting: Ponder Elementary, Perry Elementary, Low Intermediate, Harmon Elementary, Coble Middle, Cabaniss Elementary, Sheppard Elementary and Lillard Intermediate. Read more

  

Mansfield High School Yearbook  

 

Congratulations to the MHS Journalism Department for receiving the All-American Award with five marks of distinction from the National Scholastic Press Association for their 2011 Tiger Yearbook. 

 

Summit High School Student Wins at National Animation Competition

 

Senior Madison Samas won third place in a national animation competition held by Student Television Network. Samas' winning entry was titled, "Whistlewing," and she has been developing the animated series since September. Read more.     

 

Mansfield High School Speech Team

 

Congratulations to the Mansfield High School Speech Team for placing 13th out of 211 schools in the overall sweepstakes at the statewide competition in Amarillo, Texas on March 3. Hats off to these students: Aldean Pearson II - Quarter Finalist in Dramatic Interpretation, Aldean Pearson II and Olivia Soliz - 9th place in Duet Acting, Stephonie Rodgers and Aldean Pearson II - Quarter Finalists in Duo Interpretation, Daniel George - Semifinalist in Poetry, Beaven Waller and Devin Hunt - Texas Forensics Association State Champions in Duo Interpretation.

St. Paddy's Pickle Parade and Pickle Palooza: 
Don't miss this special weekend event March 16 and 17 in downtown Mansfield. There will be lots of family-friendly games and activities including a parade, contests, a 5K/10K run, live music and more. Learn more.     
 
Deadline to Enter Artwork Approaching:  
If you would like to submit original logo artwork for the new District motto, "Inspire. Achieve. Excel." please make note that the deadline is Friday, March 16. View details.

Reminder - Passport to Kindergarten:  
Incoming kindergarten/pre-k families are invited to attend on Saturday, April 14, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. This is an opportunity to complete your child's enrollment and registration process for the 2012-13 school year. View details.  

Coyote Concerns:  
The Mansfield Police Department and Mansfield Animal Care and Control Department would like to call attention to concerns regarding coyotes in the area. Two public forums will be held to discuss this topic - March 14 and March 27, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at City Hall. More information
