2012-13 Calendar Approved
The Mansfield ISD B oard of Trustees approved the 2012-2013 school district calendar at the January 24 Regular Board Meeting.
Two calendar options were developed and shared through an online survey that ran December 14, 2011 through January 4, 2012. A total of 4,631 individuals responded to the survey.

Updated Time for NASA Event

The students from "NASA Low" Intermediate school have begun the final countdown to the extraordinary opportunity to talk live with NASA astronauts aboard the International Space Station on January 31.
We received word from NASA that the event time has been updated to begin at 10:50 AM next Tuesday.
The downlink will broadcast via NASA Television, so be sure to tune in!

Seeking Nominations for New Award

The Impact Award, which launched this week, was established to recognize individual staff members, departments, campuses or other groups that have promoted teamwork and unity by initiating a program or event that made a positive impact within MISD and the community.
Impact Award winners may be nominated by staff, students or community members. A winner will be selected each month, beginning in February 2012. Learn more. |

District Announces Motto Contest

Mansfield ISD is accepting online submissions for an official motto.
Criteria: Motto submissions must be clear and concise and will be judged on if they clearly capture the MISD Mission.
Eligibility: Anyone in the Mansfield ISD community of parents, students, staff and patrons are eligible to enter the contest, which will end at 3:00 PM on February 1, 2012.

Timberview Coach Wins Heartbeat Award

It's been said that adversity breeds character and strength. During a period themed by tragedy and pain, Timberview High School head football Coach Mark Walker emerged as a shining example of that adage. It is for this reason, Coach Walker was named the January 2012 Heartbeat Team recipient.

Vonda Nunley - Academic Associate Principal at Lake Ridge High School
Kirk Thor - Head Football Coach at Lake Ridge High School
Kimberly Holcomb - Assistant Principal Intern at D.P. Morris Elementary School
Lori Torrez - Assistant Principal Intern at Mary Jo Sheppard
Jimmy Womack - Interim Director of Transportation

Student Recognition Spotlight
Summit HS FROG Week
The students of Summit High School are leaping into action to raise $7,000 to grant a wish for Sienna, a 13-year-old girl with Monomelic Amyotrophy, who dreams of going to Florida to experience the beach before she is no longer able to walk. Read more.
Willie Brown Robotics Team
Willie Brown Elementary fielded its first-ever robotics team for the TCEA Area 10/11 competition in Allen, Texas on January 14. Students competed in groups of three or four against other area teams, which ranged in age from elementary to high school. Read more.
Academic Decathlon
Congratulations to the Academic Decathlon Teams from Legacy High School and Summit High School for advancing to state in the Region VIII tournament. Best of luck to both teams!
Mansfield HS Speech and Debate
Mansfield High School students will attend the Harvard International Speech and Debate competition, held on the campus of Harvard University. The team will also compete at the Texas Forensics Association State tournament in Amarillo this March. Best of luck to the competitors: Beaven Waller, Devin Hunt, Olivia Soliz, Stephonie Rodgers, Daniel George, Aldean Pearson II.

Mansfield News-Mirror Recognizes MISD Staff:
The Mansfield News-Mirror revealed the winners of their 2012 "Best of Mansfield" awards this week. Among those honored were Jeanne Hinerman, a 4th grade teacher at Roberta Tipps Elementary, who was selected as the Best Teacher, and Linda Brandes, P.E. Coach at Mary Orr Intermediate, who took the title of Best Coach. These annual awards are chosen by the readers of the Mansfield-News Mirror.
Curtains Open on Summit High School Musical:
Big River, a musical adaptation of Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn will run from January 26 - 29 at Summit High School. More information.
High School Drill Team Mandatory Parent Meeting:
A meeting will be held at Willie Pigg Auditorium on Thursday, January 26 at 7:00 PM and Monday, February 6 at 7:00 PM (parents may attend either meeting). More information.
