We Can Choose - Grant Program

MISD Education Foundation Mini Grant program

The MISD Education Foundation has started the "WeCan...Choose!" mini-grant program. This new grant program inspires teachers to write grants for projects and materials for immediate implementation in their classrooms.

The goal is to give our parents and community an opportunity to help us fund more of these terrific projects and get much needed resources into our classrooms to benefit our children.

NOTE: From August 29 - September 29 you can donate online to specific "We Can...Choose!" grants.

Mansfield ISD Board calls for Bond

School Board

bond election At their August 23rd regular meeting, the Mansfield ISD Board of Trustees voted to call a $198,530,000 bond election for November 8, 2011.

Contents of the school bond package were prioritized by a 26-member facility committee consisting of parents, local citizens, business leaders and school staff. Over the course of several meetings, the committee studied a district-wide facility assessment, community survey and district financial information as well as toured existing elementary school campuses. The committee used this information and input from district staff to develop a recommendation for a bond election to address MISD facilities.

What's Included in the Bond?

The proposed bond will touch every existing Mansfield ISD campus in some capacity and will:

  1. construct facility additions and completely rebuild five campuses to provide equity across the district;
  2. upgrade safety and security systems at existing campuses;
  3. upgrade existing technology to expand the learning environment at all campuses; and,
  4. address aging campuses and infrastructure to provide an equitable learning experience across all campuses, improve energy efficiency, reduce operating costs and increase the life expectancy of existing facilities.

Mansfield ISD Launches iPhone App

Mansfield ISD has launched the long-awaited and planned iPhone App just in time for the start of the 2011-12 school year.

iPhone app The idea for the iPhone App materialized last summer and we received some early interest, wishes and suggestions for functionality.

We listened to that feedback and put together a comprehensive mobile app for our community.

We wanted to provide our parents, students, and staff with as much of the relevant and useful Mansfield ISD information, links, documents, resources, etc. at their fingertips.

Legacy High School senior, Tracie Pettus, was selected to participate in the Economics for Leaders program held at the University of Texas, Austin in June. She was one of 50 students from around the country accepted into the program established by the Foundation for Teaching Economics. The week-long program instills an understanding of economic reasoning principles and how to employ these concepts for successful and effective leadership.

Summit JROTC Places 6th in National Contest

The Summit JROTC team was one of 40 teams to advance to the JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl in Washington, D.C., in June. The team consisted of First Sergeants Wesley Galbraith, Ballal Qazi, and Stephen Shotkoski and Corporal Mariah Zielke. Summit High School ended up in 6th place. This is truly a major accomplishment in that this was their first time competing. When you consider that they beat 1132 other Army JROTC units, it's really amazing. This was the first team from any Mansfield ISD school to travel to Washington, D.C. to compete in the championship.
