As the number of Mansfield ISD families in need continues to grow, there are many opportunities to lend a helping hand. Each year, hundreds of MISD families receive help with school supplies through Common Ground Network's School Supply Program. (Learn more.

No Longer "High School #5" 

 

 

lrhsThe results of the recent community survey made it quite clear which of the two names for High School #5 was most popular.
  
After almost 2,500 votes, the results favored "Lake Ridge High School" (80%) over "Lake Crest High School" (20%).
  
The Board approved the name on Tuesday, May 24, making it the official name of Mansfield ISD's high school #5.
  
Once again, thank you to our fantastic High School Naming Committee, as well as all who took the time to take the survey.

Summit Red Alert Re-Cap

As you may have heard, Summit High School was placed on red alert on the morning of May 23 after a threatening anonymous call was taken by the campus receptionist.

Congratulations to our tennis, track, and golf state champion athletes:
  • Andrew Korinek (Mansfield HS) - 5A Tennis Boys Singles Tate Champion
  • Aldrich Bailey (Timberview HS) - Boys 5A 400m State Champion
  • Ashley Burris (Timberview HS) - Girls 3A 300m Hurdles State Champion
  • Shelbi Vaughan (Legacy HS) - Girls 5A Discus State Champion
  • Mansfield HS Boys Golf Team - 5A State Champions
Timberview Junior ROTC
 

The Air Force Junior ROTC Unit TX-20053 at Mansfield Timberview High School was selected as one of 403 units to receive the 2010-2011 Air Force Junior ROTC Distinguished Unit Award. (Read more.)


Legacy Art Students

 

Advanced Art students from Legacy High School recently competed in the 5th Annual Goss-Michael Foundation Student Art Competition, held at the foundation's gallery in downtown Dallas. LHS students swept all categories, winning a combined total of $2,250 in savings bonds. Congratulations to Elena Chudoba, Andi Redman, Zelda Valverde, Madi Ward and Kathe Fishburn. 

 

MHS Speech Team

 

The Mansfield High School Speech Team did a fantastic job at the National Individual Events Tournament of Champions in San Antonio on May 14. Each MHS competitor advanced in multiple rounds, and the team won Second Place in overall sweepstakes. Congratulations to Beaven Waller, Aldean Pearson III, Eric Yates, Zach Soliz, Chloe Voreis and Alexandrea Antonio.  

MISD Multi-Scholarship Winners
  
Mansfield ISD high school seniors were honored at the Multi-Scholarship Breakfast on May 17. The program originated in 1979 and has expanded from two scholarships to 114 scholarships totaling $84,850 in 2011. The objective of this program is to award as many scholarships as possible from local community groups to qualifying graduating seniors. (View the photos.)

SkillsUSA Team

For the fourth consecutive year, students from the Ben Barber Career Tech Academy SkillsUSA Team are advancing to the National Championship event. The team will travel to the Kansas City Convention Center on June 23, where more than 5,500 students will compete in 94 occupational and leadership skill areas. Congratulations to Kyler Ford, Eduardo Rosales, Dalton Thomas, J. Carlos Perez and Trevor Van Doren.
