Community Blood Drive
Methodist Mansfield Medical Center and Mansfield ISD have teamed up with the American Red Cross to host a community-wide blood drive. Mansfield community members, Methodist Mansfield employees and MISD parents, faculty, staff and eligible students are all encouraged to donate on May 6 at three Mansfield ISD schools. (Learn more.)

Bell Schedule Information Meeting
Intermediate Schools and Middle Schools 
The Mansfield ISD Curriculum and Instruction division will present an informational meeting for the 2011-12 Intermediate and Middle School Bell Schedules at 6:30 pm on Thursday, May 5 at Willie Pigg Auditorium.
Administrators will share a presentation to explain the new intermediate and middle school bell schedule. In addition, parents are invited to submit written questions prior to the presentation which can be answered at the meeting. ( Learn more.)

Administrative Update
The following administrative changes were announced at the April Board Meeting:
Welcome!
- Misty Brown will assume the position of Director of Finance for MISD.
- Billy Snow will take over as Principal at D.P. Morris Elementary this fall.
- Violet Maxwell will take over as Principal of Roberta Tipps Elementary this fall.
Congratulations!
- Kyna Eastlick has accepted the position of Principal at Willie Brown Elementary after serving as Interim Principal since November 2010.
- Jamie Norwood-Miller has accepted the position of Principal at Tarver Rendon-Elementary. She currently serves as an Assistant Principal at Cross Timbers Intermediate.

Richard Dreyfuss Visits Legacy High School
 The students of Mr. Rabalais' AP Government class had the unique opportunity to discuss politics and patriotism with Academy Award winner Richard Dreyfuss on the morning of April 20.
Since founding the Dreyfuss Initiative, which promotes the revival of civics education in public schools, Richard Dreyfuss travels across the nation to speak to educators, teachers, parents and students about the value of teaching civics to the future leaders of the country. Rising Stars Discovery Camp
The Rising Stars Discovery Camp is a fun, exciting introduction to a few of the courses offered at Ben Barber Career Tech Academy (BBCTA).
American Sign Language, Culinary Arts, Basic Photography and Video Production are just a few of the available courses.
Ben Barber's Rising Stars Discovery Camp is open to any Mansfield ISD student enrolled in 5th, 6th or 7th grade during the 2010 - 2011 school year.
The camp takes place June 13 - 17 at BBCTA. The registration deadline is Monday, May 23. (Learn more.) |

Betty Buckley Awards Nominees
This year marks the 11th annual Betty Lynn Buckley Awards, and we are proud to announce the nominees from Mansfield ISD. (Read more.)
Brooks Wester Student Exhibits Lone Star Leadership
Grant Williams, an 8th grader from Brooks Wester Middle School, was one of 147 participants from 70 school districts across Texas to participate in the Lone Star Leadership Academy. (Read the blog post.) Legacy High School Student Wins Scholarship
Congratulations to Ian B. Cook, from Legacy High School. Cook is among approximately 1,000 distinguished high school seniors who have won corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship Awards. (Read more.)
Timberview Student Wins State Championship in Powerlifting
Congratulations to Timberview High School junior, Octavia Hill, for winning the State Championship in Powerlifting. (Read more.)
Mansfield ISD High School Choirs Compete in UIL Concert and Sight Reading
All four Mansfield ISD High School Choirs performed in the UIL Concert and Sightreading contest at Trinity High School in Euless on April 13. Choirs from UIL Region 5 performed in hopes of achieving superior ratings in both categories. (View the results.) Timberview Track Team Wins at District Meet Congratulations to Timberview High School's Ashley Burris! Ashley recorded the fastest time in the nation in the 300 hurdles (41.81) at the district track meet on Wednesday. The THS boys and girls track teams won the District Championship.

Odds & Ends
The MISD School Board approved the following changes to the the 2011 - 2012 district calendar:
- February 20 - Bad Weather Make-Up Day #1
- April 6 - District-wide Holiday
- May 28 - Student Holiday/SDCE Day for Teachers
- June 1 - Bad Weather Make-Up Day #2
Legacy Senior Art Show: This event is four years in the making and a new tradition for years to come. The opening reception and silent auction will take place Saturday, April 30 from 7 - 10 p.m. at the Hue Gallery in Downtown Mansfield.
Mammography Unit Visits Legacy: A mammography unit was stationed at Legacy High School on April 27 and provided over 30 free mammograms to community members. UT Southwestern Medical Center provides this service once a year to area residents. For more information, visit www.utsouthwestern.org.
11th Annual Student Art Show:
Week 2 (May 9 - 12): Entries from grades K - 4 will be on display in the Rock Gym at the Central Administration Building. The awards presentation will take place on Thursday, May 12 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. in the Commons Area of the Administration Building.
Make Education a Priority: At the April 26 regular board meeting, Mansfield ISD Trustees adopted the "Make Education a Priority" resolution, joining 600+ Texas school districts in calling attention to the state's education funding crisis.
