The Mansfield ISD Shining Star Award honors any non-teaching staff individual for their exceptional contributions and service to the students and staff of the District.

Principals' Fitness Challenge Results
Congratulations to Principals Elizabeth Hostin (Martha Reid Elementary) and Scott Shafer (Brooks Wester Middle) for winning the Principals' Challenge, sponsored by Methodist Mansfield Medical Center. The challenge began in October, and helped administrators, staff, students and teachers take steps toward living a healthier lifestyle by increasing their physical activity and improving nutrition. Teacher of the Year Winners
Mansfield ISD is proud to present the 2011 Teachers of the Year.
Teachers of the Year were selected at each school in Mansfield ISD. From those, a committee selected three finalists for elementary and three from the secondary (intermediate, middle and high) schools.
The six finalists were interviewed, and one winner was selected from the elementary category and secondary category. The two winners will go on to compete in the Region XI Teacher of Year competition and could potentially go on to compete for Texas Teacher of the Year.

Student Recognition Spotlight
TASC State Convention
Mansfield ISD was represented by students from LHS, MHS, SHS and THS at the largest gathering of student leaders in the world on April 3 -5. Over 4,500 students attended the Texas Association of Student Council (TASC) State Convention at the Arlington Convention Center. (See the MISD group photo.)
Legacy UIL Academics The Legacy High School UIL Academic Team made history with their first sweepstakes win at the District UIL tournament. (Read more.)
BBCTA SkillsUSA Team
The Ben Barber Career Tech Academy (BBTCA) SkillsUSA Team competed in the state competition in Corpus Christi, March 31 - April 2. Justin Martinez won Best in Show for his Solo Audio Project and Jasmine Fuller and Mylz Douglas won Best in Show for their Group Audio Project. (See the photo.) Erma Nash Pentathlon Thirty-two students from Erma Nash Elementary competed in the National Mathematics Pentathlon Tournament in Midlothian on April 2. The team did a great job and walked away with four medals and five honorable mentions. (Read the blog post.)
T.A. Howard Choir The Advanced Treble Girls' Choir and the Boys' Choir from T.A. Howard Middle School did a fantastic job at UIL. The boys received a superior rating in concert and the girls received unanimous superior ratings, earning them a UIL sweepstakes.
Mansfield High School Student Wins Scholarship
Congratulations to Messhia Young, a Senior at Mansfield High School, for being selected as a recipient of the 2011 National Achievement Scholarship for $2,500 (Read more.)
Legacy High School Art Students Legacy High School Art students came out on top at the 2010 - 2011 State Finals of the Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) in Houston on April 8 and 9. (Read more.)
High School Choir
All four Mansfield ISD High School Choirs performed in the UIL Concert and Sightreading contest at Trinity High School in Euless on April 13. Choirs from UIL Region 5 performed in hopes of achieving superior ratings in both categories. UIL Region 5 is made up of choirs from Arlington ISD, Birdville ISD, Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD and Mansfield ISD. (See the results.) |

11th Annual Student Art Show: This fantastic event kicks off next week. Be sure to save these dates:
- Week 1 (April 18 - 21): Entries from grades 5 - 12 will be on display in the Rock Gym at the Central Administration Building. The awards presentation will take place on Thursday, April 21, from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. in the Great Room of the Administration Building.
- Week 2 (May 9 - 12): Entries from grades K - 4 will be on display in the Rock Gym at the Central Administration Building. The awards presentation will take place on Thursday, May 12, from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. in the Commons Area of the Administration Building.

Arabic Grant Update: The US Department of Education has rejected Mansfield ISD's revised Arabic FLAP grant proposal. As a result, Mansfield ISD has ended all Arabic FLAP grant-related activities and will no longer accept funds related to this grant. (Read more.)
