District Announces next Superintendent

On Tuesday, February 24, the MISD Board of Trustees officially named current Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Bob Morrison, as the next Superintendent of Schools for MISD starting July 1, 2009. Dr. Morrison will succeed Mr. Vernon Newsom who will retire at the end of this school year.

Prior to being Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Morrison (pictured above) was the MISD Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education and Director of Student Services. He also served as a high school principal, teacher and coach in Oklahoma.

Along with approving the Superintendent position, the Board also named four new principals, a high school football coach, a new elementary school attendance zone, and the purchase of a district-wide online reference library. Read more...

Attention Students and Parents: Students seeking fee reductions for AP Exams beyond those already provided by the school should see the Academic Associate Principal on their High School campus.

Internship Program Seeks Business Partners
Ben Barber Career Tech Internship Course

The Mansfield ISD is pleased to announce a new internship course for high school juniors and seniors beginning in 2009-2010.
Educational Partners Internship Connection (EPIC) is a concentrated, interactive new course being offered to high school juniors and seniors to provide them with meaningful real-world experience in a professional environment sponsored by community business partners. This exciting new program will be coordinated at the District's Ben Barber Career Tech Academy starting the 2009-2010 school year.

Educational Partners
The program is currently seeking professionals in the MISD community who are interested in becoming an Educational Partner for this internship course.

Odds & Ends

Spelling Bee - Coble Middle School 8th grade student, Liz Adetiba was announced the winner of the Area 11 Spelling Bee held at Legacy High School. Liz advances to the next level in the Regional Spelling Bee on March 24 at 8:00 a.m. at the Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth.

Equestrian Recognition - Congratulations to Wester 8th grader Brett Sanders who recently received multiple champion and reserve champion awards from her off-campus horse riding endeavors.

BPA State Qualifiers - Top students from Ben Barber will be attending the Business Professionals of America (BPA) 2009 State Leadership Conference.

Just for Kids Recognition - Congratulations to the MISD schools that have been recognized for outstanding performance by the National Center for Educational Accountability. The campuses are Anderson Elementary, Tipps Elementary, and Timberview High School.

Swim Classes Start Soon - Mansfield ISD Natatorium 2009 Learn-to-Swim Program Registration is now open.
