Some of the recent comments and questions:

How is Infinite Campus better than eSembler at meeting our needs?

It gives teachers and parents more student information than eSembler. It's one large information system with multiple modules that helps many departments.

"It seems that we have actually taken a step back rather than forward with this new gradebook system."
Actually we've taken a great step forward. People need to remember that this isn't just a gradebook that we're implementing; the gradebook is only a tiny piece of the big system. Please also remember that this is our implementation year. It took a couple of years to get everything activated and working correctly in eSembler.

Visit the Infinite Campus Resource Web page that was created to provide FAQs, Campus Contact Matrix (who to go to with issues and questions), Reference Documents, and other related information.

The Infinite Campus Parent Portal Information page will be the dedicated location for updates, announcements, and future documentation as deemed necessary by the district.

We encourage parents to be patient as our teachers continue to learn and adapt to the new system.

International Walk to School Day @ Holt

A group of senior nursing students from Texas Christian University will be putting on the International Walk to School (iWalk) event on Wednesday, October 8 for students from Carol Holt Elementary School. Holt elementary students will join schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day (iWalk).

Approximately 400 students from Carol Holt will be walking/biking to school October 8 along with parents, teachers and community leaders.

The event will begin at 7:30 AM with kids, parents and community leaders walking from various locations in the community where walking groups will be formed. Children who ride the buses to school will have the opportunity to participate in a walk through the playground area. Students will have the opportunity to learn about safety while walking/biking to school.

In the U.S., International Walk to School Day is expected to include 5,000 schools from all 50 states. Walkers from the U.S. will join children and adults in 40 countries around the world. Walk to School events work to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community.

Improv for a Cure
Legacy High School

The Theatre Department's Improv Troupe will donate all proceeds from their October 15 show to fight breast cancer.

The school has eight students and four adults that are making up Broncos for a Cure.  They each need to raise $2200 to walk in the Breast Cancer 3-Day benefiting the Susan G. Komen foundation.  "We have set our school goal at $30,000," says Melanie McIntyre, LHS Theatre Arts Director, "and have raised over $9000 so far including what the walkers have already raised."

The show will be held at the Legacy HS Performing Arts Center on October 15 at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $3.00 and donations are welcome.

MAPPS bus
Several of the campuses reserve a bus to take parents with their students to Ben Barber for M.A.P.S.S. (Davis Elementary bus above from the September event)

Having a bus encourages participation, especially for those parents who are short on money (for gas), don't drive and live a distance from Ben Barber. The whole M.A.P.S.S. experience begins at the campus. Parents and students have a great evening together, courtesy of the district.

What is M.A.P.P.S.? Come to an event and find out.

Remaining M.A.P.P.S. events:

  • Thursday, October 23, 2008 ~ Theme: Hip Hoppin' With Froggy
  • Thursday, January 29, 2009 ~ Theme: Tales From 'Round The World
  • Thursday, April 2, 2009 ~ School Is Cool!
