Jivin' In The Gym 5th Annual Event at JL Boren
JL Boren Physical Education classes will get jumping this month. The 5th Annual Jivin' In The Gym will take place January 15, 16, and 17. The event came to be because P.E. classes rarely have any visitors. "We wanted a way to encourage parents and grandparents to visit our class," said Cheryl Stranahan, P.E. specialist. "I heard from a teacher friend in another district who teaches her students dances and invite parents, grandparents etc. to join the students for a physical education class."
The visitors are taught the dances along with the class and students and adults all dance together. The dances are line dances or hand jive-type actions where partners are not needed so everyone can participate whether they have guests or not.
"It has been a huge success," said Stranahan. "We have approximately 450 students involved in grades 2,3,4, and each year have about 50-60% parent participation. We are always involved in fitness and dance fulfills our TEKS [Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills]. The students absolutely love to have parents visit and are so proud to have their parents in class with them."

Inclement Weather Reminder
Although it didn't feel much like it this weekend, we are in the winter months and inclement weather is still possible. Please become familiar with the District's communication
process in the event of bad weather.
The closing of schools due to inclement weather is the decision of the district administration. The decision to cancel school will be made as early as possible and the radio and TV stations listed on the Inclement Weather Information page will be notified. They, in turn, will announce the closure. Please do NOT call school offices or teachers for such information.
