Business group honors Tipps Elementary for high performance

Tipps Elementary named Honor Roll SchoolRoberta Tipps Elementary School has been named an Honor Roll school by a highly regarded non-profit business and education group.

The Austin-based Texas Business & Education Coalition (TBEC) awards are issued each year to only a select number of Texas public schools based on high, sustained student academic performance. To be honored, schools are compared with individual peer schools and student groups, and then tracked over a multi-year period.

"The Roberta Tipps community is ecstatic to be recognized for the achievement of our students, teachers, and parents," says Tipps Elementary principal, Elna Davis. "This honor has come with the unwavering support of district personnel as well as the sacrifice of time, talent, and mediocrity from our students, staff and parents.

Teacher awarded nearly $1200 worth of classroom items

Office Max/ Adopt-a-classroomBeing a teacher is expensive. The people at Office Max agree and they helped one lucky first-year teacher from Glenn Harmon Elementary.

On Tuesday, October 2, first-grade teacher Jennifer Jacobs was awarded nearly $1200 in items through the Office Max "A Day Made Better" campaign. Jacobs was nominated by her principal, Sharon Ferguson for the in-store campaign at the Office Max located on South Cooper Street, in Arlington. "Jennifer is my only brand new, first year teacher and I thought she would benefit the most from their generosity," says Ferguson. "She is a caring individual who enjoys what she is doing with and for her kids."
