October 1 - 21.  Free Fall Baltimore. A free, city-wide arts extravaganza throughout the month of October.  More than 300 free events, including music, art, dance, history, theater, and hands-on workshops.  More info

 

October. 4 - 8.  United States Sailboat Show.  The big sailboat show, held at Annapolis City Dock and Harbor.  More InfoAnnapolis, MD.

 

October 5 - 6.  30th Annual West Point Crab Carnival. Parade, live entertainment, food, arts and crafts booths, fun run, and fireworks.  West Point, VA. More info

 

October. 5-7. 20th Annual Eastern Shore Birding and Wildlife Festival. More Info.   Cape Charles, VA.

 

October 5 - 7.  Mid-Atlantic Small Craft Festival.  One of the nation's premier small craft events. Hundreds of amateur and professional builders display their skiffs, kayaks, and canoes. Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. More InfoSt. Michaels, MD

 

October 5 - 7.  Turkey Shoot Regatta. A classic sailboat regatta to raise money for hospice. Any boat whose design is over 25 years old is welcome to race.  Yankee Point Sailboat Marina, Lancaster, VA. More info.

 

October 6.  24th Annual Virginia Children's Festival.  Lots of interactive fun at this festival designed just for the kids. At Town Point Park on the Norfolk waterfront. Norfolk, VA.   More info

 

October 6.  Taste of Kent Narrows. This annual event showcases the area's restaurants. A family event with live entertainment. Noon to 5:00 at  the Chesapeake Exploration Center. More info.

 

October 6.  Historic Houses Open House. Wright's Chance, a restored 18th Century plantation house, and Tucker House, a restored 1792 home, will be open to the public, free of charge, from 10:00am to 2:00pm.  Docents will lead tours of the houses. Centreville. Kent Island Area.   More info.  

 

October 6. North Beach Bay Harvestfest.  Noon to 6:00pm. Crafts, farm produce and food, plus children's activities, and live music. North Beach, MDMore info

 

October 6.  Annual Asbury Fall Festival. 9:00am to 1:00pm.  Country store, gift shop, silent auction, bake store, promise tree, attic relics.  Homemade lunch.   Asbury United Methodist Church, 3380 Lawsonia Road, Crisfield. Crisfield, MDMore info

 

October 6.  Five Alarm Chili Cook-Off and Festival.  Put on by the fire department, this cook-off also features information and demonstrations on fire safety.  At the Carousel Park. Hampton, VA.   More info.   

 

October 6.  Easton Airport Day.  Free and open to the public, 10:00am to 4:00pm.  Event includes skydiving, warbird formation flying, a learn to fly seminar, classic car show, and rescue chopper and paramedics open house.  Plus, the famous "Rubber Chicken Drop." Easton, MD.  More info.

      

October 6.  3rd Annual Columbus Day Celebration.  Italian & Spanish food, wine, art, and games.  Noon to 6:00pm in the parking lot adjacent to Simpatico, 104 Railroad Avenue. St Michaels, MD.   More info

 

October 6.  Yorktown Wine Festival. Sample Virginia wines at the Yorktown Riverwalk. Food, artwork, a performance by the Yorktown Fife and Drums, and evening entertainment.  Yorktown, VA.  More info

 

October 6 -7.  Patuxent River Appreciation Days. 

Celebrate the river with a parade,  an open house the the Calvert Marine Museum, entertainment, free harbor cruises, arts and crafts, and children's activities.  More InformationSolomons Island, MD

 

October 6 - 7.  Blessing of the Fleet Festival. A fun two-day family event honoring Maryland's birthplace.  At the museum grounds, Coltons Point, Md.  Water taxi rides to St. Clement's Island available all day both days. Food, entertainment, tours of the Maryland Dove, fireworks. Coltons Point, MD.  More info

 

October 6 - 7.  Fells Point Fun Festival. Annual street festival with five stages of live music, food vendors, arts and crafts vendors, international bazaar, fine arts displays,  and children's activities. 11:00am to 7:00pm.

October 10 - 14.  Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race.  Classic schooners sail in this race from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge near Annapolis to Portsmouth, VA.  There will be a parade of sail in Baltimore on the 10th at 5:00pm.  The race starts at the Bay Bridge at 1:30pm on the 11th.  More info

October 20 -21, 2012.  Cambridge Schooner Rendezvous.  Schooners and other historic vessels gather at Cambridge's Long Wharf Park.  Festivities include sails, entertainment and food.  More infoCambridge, MD.


 November 2 & 3, 2012.  Urbanna Oyster Festival. Virginia's official oyster festival.  Attended by over 75,000 visitors. Oysters, seafood, and regional specialties.
