Cherokee Preservation Foundation (www.cpfdn.org) was established in 2000 as part of the Second Amendment to the Tribal-State Compact between the EBCI and the State of North Carolina.

It is an independent nonprofit foundation funded by the EBCI from gaming revenues generated by the Tribe. CPFdn is not associated with any for-profit gaming entity.

We are writing to tell you that our search for Cherokee Preservation Foundation's next Executive Director is under way.  Also, we invite you to an August 23rd reception at which we will announce winners of our 10th Anniversary Community Photo Contest.

Cherokee Preservation Foundation is now conducting a search for an experienced Executive Director with a demonstrated commitment to philanthropic excellence to lead the organization starting in January 2013. Located in Cherokee, NC on the Qualla Boundary, the homeland of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), Cherokee Preservation Foundation works to improve the quality of life of members of the EBCI and strengthen the surrounding region. Established in 2000, the Foundation provides funding, convening and collaboration in the areas of cultural preservation, economic development and environmental preservation, generally making grants in the $5 million to $6 million range each year.

Join Us August 23 for a Photo

Reception and Exhibit 

Adult and youth photographers are encouraged to enter Cherokee Preservation Foundation's photo contest.
Adult and youth photographers have entered Cherokee Preservation Foundation's 10th Anniversary photo contest. Winners will be announced August 23 at a reception.

 

Through our 10th Anniversary Photo Contest, the community has helped the Foundation celebrate its first decade of work. Residents living on the Qualla Boundary and the seven western counties have submitted photos that illustrate cultural preservation, economic development and environmental preservation in westernmost North Carolina. On Thursday, August 23, we unveil the winners at a reception at Qualla Arts and Crafts from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

 

Come enjoy the photos and refreshments, and learn which adult and youth category contestants won prizes ranging from $50 to $500.

 

The exhibit, which will be curated by Oconaluftee Institute for Cultural Arts, will be in the Community Meeting Room of Qualla Arts & Crafts between August 23 and September 5.
