Wins National Attention
The new Advanced Manufacturing Program has captured national attention. The two-certificate program, which began August 29, was the subject of an article in the August edition of League Connections, a newsletter published by the Arizona-based League for Innovation in the Community College. The program is being offered through HCC's Regional Advanced Manufacturing Center, which was created to serve students in 43 towns between the New York state line and the Connecticut River, as far north as the Middletown, Meriden, Waterbury and Danbury areas. A second program offering is set to begin Oct. 1.

HCC Is No Stranger
To Area Radio Programs
Housatonic Community College has been no stranger to the airwaves in recent weeks. President Anita Gliniecki discussed the college's advanced manufacturing program on John Voket's show on WEZN-FM (Star 99) and Jim Buchanan's talk show on WICC-AM. In addition, she and Academic Coordinator Bill Griffin discussed the program on the Tony Reno/Mike Bellamy talk show on WICC. Psychology professor John Sopchak discussed the advanced manufacturing, criminal justice and early childhood education programs on Raeleen Mautner's talk show on WNHU-FM , while fellow psychology professor Michael Amico discussed the Colorado movie theater shootings with Jim Buchanan.

President Gliniecki Joins
Entrepreneurship Forum
HCC President Anita T. Gliniecki has joined The National Association of Community College Entrepreneurship's Presidents for Entrepreneurship Forum. Through the program, presidents of community colleges throughout the country commit to increase the focus on entrepreneurship at their institutions and the impact these colleges have on the economic well-being of the communities they serve. "The support of entrepreneurship is critical to the economic growth and vitality of the college's service region and the state," said President Gliniecki. "Thus, HCC has actively promoted and supported our students' development of the necessary skills to be successful entrepreneurs."

Lab School Earns
National Accreditation
Housatonic Community College's Early Childhood Laboratory School has earned accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the nation's leading organization of early childhood professionals. The school, which was hailed by President Clinton as "what every child in America needs," received scores of at least 100 percent for its performance in all areas in which schools are judged. The accreditation is valid until Sept. 1, 2017.

Domestic Tools Subject
Of Upcoming Art Exhibit
Reimagining the Distaff Toolkit, an exhibition that explores household tools as a metaphor for the social and cultural histories of women, will be on view in the Burt Chernow Galleries at the Housatonic Museum of Art Sept. 6 - Oct. 26. To create the metaphors, artists in this exhibit place old tools such as washboards, dressmakers' dummies, graters, rub beaters and mason jars at the center of their work . Twenty-eight artists including Betye and Alison Saar, Lisa Alvarado, Dave Cole, Judy Hoyt, Larry Ruhl, Flo Oy Wong, Debra Priestly, are represented in this show.
