HCC President Wins

Rotary Club Award

 

Housatonic Community College President Anita T. Gliniecki has won a Paul Harris Fellowship award from the Bridgeport Rotary Club.  She was recognized for her contributions to the club and the local and international communities it serves. She has been assuming an increasing leadership role in the club and participated in a recent exchange program involving  Connecticut and South African clubs.

Life of Civil War Soldiers 

Subject of Event

 

A day in the life of a Civil War soldier was the subject of a re-enactment April 4 in the college Courtyard.  Pvts. Julius Hull, Jr. and John Skrainski and Sgt. Andrew Ocetnik of the 27th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry were on hand for demonstrations of  the daily routine, clothing, equipment, and weapons of soldiers in the country's greatest crisis. The event was arranged by HCC Professor David Koch.

Taps HCC Student 

 

Housatonic Community College student Kristina Kyoryosh has been tapped for assignments by the Atlanta-based StudioRW, a specialist in wedding photography. To date, she has joined the studio's photography team in shooting weddings in Monroe and Lake Placid, NY. A photography major, she is an intern in HCC's Public and Media Relations office.

Culture of Men Focus

Of HCC Performance

 

The Culture of Men will be spotlighted Thursday, April 19 when the group Urbintel takes to the stage at HCC to perform its show The Male Ego. To reveal the man through his ego, the group creates a synergy of music and narrative that explores the myths and preconceived notions about growing to manhood in America. The performance, which is open to the public at no charge, will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center in Lafayette Hall.

RallyHCC Students Hold

Trayvon Martin Rally

 

Some 300 people, many wearing hooded attire, gathered in the HCC Courtyard March 28 to focus attention on the controversial shooting death of hoodie-clad, 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Sanford, FL. Speakers at the rally included Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch and HCC President Anita T. Gliniecki. The event, sponsored by HCC's C.A.N. (Community Action Network) club, was covered by the print and electronic media, including the Connecticut Post, News12 Connecticut of Norwalk, WVIT-TV of Hartford, and WTNH-TV of New Haven.
