2011 Conference & Annual Meeting
Forage and Grasslands - The key to a competitive livestock industry
and a healthy environment

December 13th & 14th, Saskatoon, SK

We're still in the final organizational stages, however, we'd like to share the date, location and theme of our upcoming CFGA Annual Meeting and Conference with you.

Forages are KEY to a competitive livestock sector

and a healthy environment!

With the price of feed grain increasing, more emphasis is being placed on forage use  in the livestock sector.  The challenge is to find profitable production systems to stabilize declining herds and allow for growth going forward. We have two avenues to source more forage. Produce more value per acre of dedicated forage land, or find synergies to utilize stubble, by-products and waste (chaff, hail damaged, frozen) from the annual crop industries.

Some of the topics include:

  • Increasing profitability within the beef & dairy industry through forages
  • Pasturing  - capturing the environmental benefits of forage
  • National export marketing and domestic marketing workshops
  • Making my grass pay
  • Changing the status quo - collaborating with industry, researchers and producers to set research targets
  • Capturing the value of hay at home and abroad

CFGA is a broad based organization recognizing and supporting the needs of both our domestic forage and grassland producers (hay, silage, pasture, straw etc.) and our forage and forage product (pellets, cubes, hay, straw) exporters.

More details will be coming in our October Newsletter.
