Greetings!
Here we are, half way through May already. What an exciting month it has been for me so far. Last weekend I traveled to Chicago to the Classical Pilates Conference. What an exceptional event it was with nearly 3 full days of classes with the top Pilates teachers in the world.
I have discussed part of my trip below, and will continue in the next newsletter.

Chicago - Part 1
I am ever so glad that I decided to go to the Chicago Classical Pilates Conference. I could not have even dreamed it would be as good as it was. Aside from the learning experience, opportunities presented to me, and overall good time, it was remarkable for me on many levels. I left there with a changed body, a new family, and a fully satisfied soul. I have just got so much to tell you that I am going to break it into a couple of my newsletters!
I started my time there on Friday afternoon with a private lesson by Peter Fiasca. I have watched his videos for years, and read his book several times. No doubt many of you have heard me talking about his work in class. It was an exciting time for me. Obviously I was pretty nervous, but the moment I met him all was well. He is charming, a fantastic teacher, and really good guy. We worked on the Reformer, Baby Arm Chair, Electric Chair and Ladder Barrel. I learned a lot from the lesson about my own body, and about many of the things I need to work on for my personal practice to grow.
That afternoon continued with a 2 hour workshop by Brooke Siler called 'All Hands on Deck'. It was a workshop on touch techniques, and getting the most from your clients. Brooke has a very talented pair of hands that I will happily allow on me anytime!! She was very funny, kind, and without any doubt, a strong and knowledgeable teacher!
Finally, Friday night finished with a very intense Mat class taught by the famous Mari Winsor. She is a small woman with intense presence, a keen eye, and hilarious cues to keep you laughing all the while she is working you out! We did some interesting variations that made us sweat and kept our heart rate up!
After all of that there was a question period with all of the guest teachers including Jay Grimes (Pilates Elder), Mari Winsor, Brooke Siler, Peter Fiasca, Dana Santi, Chris Robinson, and Kathi Ross-Nash. They discussed the method, the history, what it was like in Joe's studio, and at Drago's where Romana continued the legacy, and many more things. No doubt we could have kept them there all night!
I have discussed the importance of learning from the best, and through the lineage of the method before. What a thrill to take classes with these teachers and Jay Grimes in particular who learned from Joseph Pilates himself.
Aside from the learning opportunities presented to me at this event, I was welcomed into a 'family' of world class teachers and have made friends that I will no doubt have for life. There was no cattiness, competitiveness, nor any ill will amongst them. These teachers live and breath the method, and wish for us all to do the same. I have come home with a renewed 'faith' in what I have always done, which is teach Authentic Pilates. If it isn't Authentic, it isn't Pilates. Period. I have more enthusiasm than ever to share this with all of you as many of you have no doubt experienced since I have been home.
I am looking forward to working with all of these teachers again in the near future as I am hoping for a trip to the NYC and Philly area in the summer.

Who Does Pilates?!
 We all know that Pilates is GREAT for us. There is just no denying it! We all had a fabulous surprise at the Chicago Pilates Conference. With his amazing teacher Bruce Burchmore, actor Thomas Gibson (Criminal Minds), shared in our weekend in Chicago. Not only does Thomas have a strong and deep personal Pilates practice, he is a great guy, and we all had a super time. How fun was Chicago? Well, if you consider that meeting, and hanging out for 2 days with Thomas Gibson was only one of MANY highlights, then you know it was pretty special! |

Studio Policy Reminder
A reminder for everyone that it is studio policy to take a class off your package if you have not notified us that you will not be attending.
Due to many classes being full, if you do not cancel your space, others can not attend class.
You can cancel via the online software, send us an email, give us a call or text our phone number. We do understand that sometimes there are circumstances beyond your control. If this is the case, let us know.
