Jump into Spring with Pilates30!
.Greetings!

It is hard to believe that Spring is around the corner!   The time has already changed, and the evening daylight is wonderful.  Even more wonderful is that my kids are sleeping a tad later than 6am now!  That being said, I am a little sad to see the snow disappear.   As many of you know, I am an avid xc skier, and with typically only 2-3 months per year to enjoy it, this time of year leaves me wanting just a little bit more snow.

We have added a number of classes to the schedule including Monday evenings, Saturday Mornings, and a few more options on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings.   Some of the classes begin this week and some of them have been added to begin after Easter Weekend.  We have also put the Pilates Enduro Classes on the schedule until the end of May, so sign up for those soon!

A HUGE Congratulations to Kelly McKeen, who successfully completed her Level 1 Certification in Boston at the end of February.  We are so proud of Kelly for her hard work, commitment to Pilates, and to the studio!  Sign up for one of Kelly's awesome classes!

With the addition of Kelly to our team, Precision Pilates has more fully trained teachers, (Mat, Reformer, Chair, Barrel, Tower, other small apparatus) than any other Pilates studio east of Montreal!!

We've got a great article about Gluten written by Naturopathic Doctor Kerri Dow.   I get lots of questions about this, and the best way to answer them is to get a professional to help!

The Fredericton Family Chiropractic Open House was postponed due to a snow storm in February so the information has been included in this newsletter as well.

Be sure to read below for information on our Pilates30 program due to start on March 17th.   There are only a few spaces left available, so contact me for more information!  We will meet on Saturday morning at 9am to get registered and started.

So what is all the news on Pilates30?  You've been hearing about it and wonder if it is for you?  YES!

"In 10 sessions you will feel the difference, in 20 sessions you will see the difference, and in 30 sessions you will have a whole new body."   - Joseph Pilates

As Pilates teachers, we know the famous words in the quote above are true and now we are challenging YOU to see for yourself!   The first Pilates30 Challenge at Precision Pilates will begin on March 17th, 2012.

There will be NO weigh-in or measurements.   At Precision Pilates we believe that it is not about the 'shape' of your body, but rather the shape that your body is in.   The only thing we will do is measure your height, and take photos of your posture.

What is involved?   30 classes in 10 weeks!   What an awesome task!  At nearly 4 classes per week, this is exactly what your body needs to get ready for Spring!  The group will meet several times over the course of the 10 weeks for the following  information sessions:

Dr. Kerri Dow, ND, (Naturopathic Doctor) from Fredericton Family Chiropractic: A Creating Wellness Centre will be meeting with us to discuss proper nutrition and overall well being.

Dr. Kelly Vanslyke and Dr. Jason Fortier from Fredericton Family Chiropractic: A Creating Wellness Centre will be meeting with the group to talk about exercise, our body, its Central Nervous System and how it is crucial to the health of our organs, muscles, and immune system.

Massage Therapists Julie Piercey and Michelle Peach from Body Renewal Health Centre will discussing the benefits of massage, and to treat you all to a mini massage after the session!

Check the website for more information, or give us a call!  Only a few spots are left, so register now!

What's the Deal with Gluten?

The food we consume is a very powerful medicine. Every molecule in our body is created from what we eat, what we drink and the air we breathe. We are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of a whole foods diet; a diet that offers food in an unrefined state and promotes optimal health and wellness. Beyond this, it is important to be aware of those foods that work well for us as individuals, as we are all biochemically unique.

Food sensitivities occur when our immune system recognizes the proteins within a certain food as foreign. This sets off an inflammatory reaction in the body (often times, these reactions are delayed several hours, and therefore difficult to identify). Food sensitivities are becoming increasingly common in our society; especially gluten.

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, kamut, spelt, barley, rye, semolina, couscous, and a number of other grains. Oats are most often contaminated with gluten as well.

When gluten is consumed by someone who is sensitive, it causes the immune cells to release chemicals which can be very destructive to the surface of the intestines. This can lead to a host of health problems, not to mention an impaired ability to absorb the nutrients from our food.

The effects of gluten sensitivity are not always confined to the gastrointestinal system.

Symptoms of gluten sensitivity include: chronic abdominal pain, gas & bloating, constipation, diarrhea, IBS, fatigue, sinus problems, joint & muscle pain, iron deficiency, rashes, failure to thrive (in children), mood disturbances, tingling sensations, sores in the mouth, headaches, to name a few.

Food sensitivities can be tested by a blood, finger pick food sensitivity test. This test is capable of determining sensitivities to 96 different foods, including wheat and gluten.

Stay tuned to future newsletters for information on a Gluten -Free lifestyle!
