Have a Heart! Have a Healthy One! |

.Greetings!
Happy Valentine's Day every one! This isn't a day that we celebrate in our house, though the kids seem to have fun with it at school. I do like to take this time to think about the REAL hearts in our lives thought. I will talk about that later on.
Lots of exciting things going on in the Studio this month! Carol Illsley is currently in Boston for more training, and Kelly McKeen heads to Boston this weekend for her final Exam!! Precision Pilates will have more fully trained teachers (Mat, Reformer, Chair, Barrel, Tower, other small apparatus) than any other Pilates studio east of Montreal!!
In light of this exciting news, we will now be open more hours each week! Kelly will be offering classes on Monday evenings and Saturday Mornings. We have had a lot of requests for Saturday classes, so if they prove to be popular we will add more to the schedule! Please keep your schedule suggestions coming!
After the first month of 'Membership' in January and two weeks into the February Membership, the gals have taken on average, 4.5 classes per week. What a remarkable change in their bodies! Posture, overall flexibility, stamina, and strength. Details on the membership program are on the website. Check it out!
We have an exciting program coming up in March because of the remarkable changes that our 'members' have experienced. We'll let you know all of the details in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
Also in this newsletter, we've got some information on the upcoming Grand Opening at Fredericton Family Chiropractic: A Creating Wellness Centre. This is such a great opportunity for all of you who don't know what the team there is all about to go and check it out!
Our next newsletter will have some information on Gluten in our diets and some responses to the book 'Wheat Belly' that myself, and many of our clients are currently reading. We'll have an article by a Naturopathic Doctor and a yummy (yes! yummy!) gluten free recipe too!

Get Your Heart On!

We can make many pretty hearts out of construction paper, as I've witnessed in the last week. Glitter Glue, markers, pencil crayons, and as many colours of paper as you can imagine. If we rip one, or break one, or put the wrong colour of sparkles on one, we can just make a new one: a bigger one, a stronger one, a prettier one. That just isn't so with the heart in our chests. Our hearts gets a taste of everything we do. Our bodies blood pump, every thing that we put in our bodies, whether it is food, air, water, in one way or another gets to the heart. Our hear is a muscle, and like all muscles is a reflection of whether or not we exercise it. Do we want to have sloppy, flaccid, couch potato hearts? Or do we want strong hearts that can push blood quickly and efficiently to keep us going through all of our daily activities and more? How do we make our hearts strong? Well, we have to feed it the right kinds of food, we have to take it out for exercise, and we have to let it rest sometimes too. We have to keep it safe from stress, emotional and physical. Just like having a child, or pet, our hearts NEED US TO LOVE THEM!!!! This is the perfect time to tell you that Pilates is a great exercise for your heart! The first exercise in the repertoire is the 'Hundred'. One of its main goals is to warm up the circulatory system, and to coordinate your breath to be equal amounts of inhaling and exhaling. This helps to regulate your heart, and get the blood moving through your body all the way to the capillaries in the far reaches of your limbs. A flowing Pilates class, that keeps you moving, and challenged will make your heart work harder and become stronger! The other thing that Pilates does for your heart is help to keep your spine aligned and working well. What does the spine have to do with the heart you ask? Well, our Central Nervous System (CNS) runs through our spine. A division of the CNS is the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) which is the main controller of Heart activity. Keeping your spine healthy using the rolling and unrolling action of articulation, plus strengthening the supporting muscles of the ' core' and spine make the CNS, and thus the ANS work better! All this adds up to a better, more efficient working heart! How GREAT! So, with Heart Month and Valentines day, I want you to think about all the important hearts in your life, whether it is yours, or those of your friends and loved ones. Think about how you can make these the strongest, longest living hearts possible! Remember, if ours fails us we can't just make a new pretty one out of paper!. |
