Issue 2 already! I hope you all enjoyed the first newsletter and have passed it along to your friends.
I want all of you to start thinking of wellness in terms of a 'complete you'. Most of us think either about how we look, or if we are suffering from some kind of ailment such as a cold or flu to determine our 'wellness'. However, I believe there is much more to it than just that. Having a sense of wellness includes all parts of our lives, such as the food we eat, how much sleep we get, are we getting enough exercise, and are we taking care of all parts of ourselves. (Including down time and fun stuff too!) Aside from the physical aspects of wellness, there are also the mental and emotional sides of wellness. I hope to provide some information on all areas of our 'wellness' in these newsletters.
In this issue, Joanne Barna owner of Aesthetiques by/par Joanne has some information for us on exfoliating your skin. This year in particular the air seems dryer than usual and I know that I am suffering from dry skin. I'm sure I'm not the only one! We also have another installment from Dr. Jason Fortier and Dr. Kelly VanSlyke. They will let us know why drinking enough water is important. I am including a fun Video that Eric Manning did of me for his 'Wine Dine Unwind' company that has a great concept of eating well, enjoying wine/spirits, and staying active and healthy. He puts all of these things together with his blog and you-tube site. I hope you check them out! Next Issue, some information from a Nutritionist and other great wellness information!
Again, congratulations to you for taking a very important step towards better health, posture and lifestyle by having Pilates in your life.
Sincerely,
Cara Berube PRECISION PILATES 5064408680

Exfoliation and its Benefits By: Joanne Doucet-Barna
Your skin can shed up to thirty thousand cells per day. By choosing to use an exfoliator (mechanical or chemical), you will help speed up the process of removing those dead skin cells. In the process of removing these dead cells, you are actual promoting new cell growth and increasing the rate at which your skin replenishes itself.
Many of us simply slather on heavy lotions and creams in an attempt to reduce dryness. However, if dead skins cells are not exfoliated prior to moisturizing, your skin will not effectively absorb the moisture and nutrients from your personal products.
Mechanical exfoliators are usually a combination of salts or sugar particles with natural abrasives which are applied in a circular motion to physically rub off the dead skin. The result is brighter, softer and healthier skin. Chemical exfoliators are either alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA's known as fruity acid) or beta-hydroxy acids (salicylic acid).
Facial peels are a form of chemical exfoliation. They can either be very gentle or very aggressive, depending on the strength of the peel. Chemical peels are effective treatments for facial blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation. For help in choosing which exfoliator is best for your skin, please call for a one on one consultation.

Drink MORE Pure Water! By: Dr. Jason Fortier and Dr. Kelly VanSlyke It is vital to your overall health and wellness to drink an adequate amount of pure water per day - all year around!. If you're thirsty then it's too late! Drink water proactively and frequently in small amounts, increase the amount with more intense activities. As a rough guide, the average person should drink half their body weight (lbs) in ounces - daily (i.e. if you are 120 lbs then you should drink 60 ounces of pure water per day). However, there is no perfect guideline for quantity (depends on age, weight, activity level, etc.), but a good indicator that you're drinking enough water is consistently having light yellow or clear urine. 'But Doc, won't drinking water make me urinate more frequently?' Yes, but only short term; your body will adapt to the increased water intake. Proper hydration is necessary for all cells of the body to function at their best. Here are some specific benefits to drinking more pure water: - Lubricates and cushions joints
- Improves digestion, nutrient absorption and elimination
- Aids in circulation
- Helps regulate body temperature
- Reduces dry skin
- Helps remove toxins from the body
*For the extremists out there, please note that there is such thing as too much water, it is very difficult to 'overdose' however please use common sense and the above mentioned tips.

Why Does Dr. Jason Recommend Pilates?
Pilates: it's MORE THAN just CORE. Pilates does more than give you awesome abs; that just happens to be a great side-effect from improving complete body control, overall strength and flexibility. Pilates will help you to be stronger, healthier and happier, which will improve your quality of life!
