Quantum Leap Farm Welcomes Pat Fried!

Quantum Leap Farm is proud to introduce our new CEO, Patricia (Pat) Fried.  Pat comes to our organization with many years of senior management and business development experience. Prior to joining Quantum Leap Farm in January 2011, Pat held senior leadership positions in small grassroots organizations as well as a large multi-million dollar nonprofit. Pat has her Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice and her Juris Doctorate degree.  She practiced law for a short while but was soon drawn into public service and has now worked in the nonprofit field for over 25 years.

Pat was introduced to Quantum Leap Farm during a Strategic Planning process last December. As Quantum Leap began to plan for growth and sustainability for the next decade and beyond, Edie and the Board realized the need for a person with Pat's level of expertise to move the Farm to the next level. Impressed by the fact that Quantum Leap Farm was able to sustain itself as a nonprofit for more than 11 years as well as the commitment of Board members, Pat was excited to join Quantum Leap.

Pat will take over the administrative functions at Quantum Leap and will be focusing on organizational effectiveness, business development and sustainability, and will work jointly with Edie on community partnerships and marketing. Edie will now devote her time to running the day to day operations of the farm.  Edie looks forward to spending more time with riders and horses, where her heart is.

A Volunteer's

Perspective on QLF!

 Idaho & little one

On Saturday, March 19th, a new volunteer came out to spend some time at Quantum Leap Farm.  Anca Irimie came out to the Farm to gain some first hand experience with our exceptional riders as part of her educator's preparatory program at St. Petersburg College.

Anca had been stressed trying to complete the assignments for her classes and was expecting her time at the Farm to be just one more assignment.  Once she arrived at the Farm, those thoughts left her head.  The calming and positive atmosphere allowed her to step outside her hectic schedule and connect to the amazing riders and their families.  Anca had such a great experience that two of her classmates came out to the Farm the following week!

Please visit our website for more information on volunteer opportunities at Quantum Leap Farm.

Kevin is an inspiration through his determination and spirit and has quickly become a part of the Quantum Leap Farm Family.

Michelle Ansley Climbs Mount Kilimanjaro for Quantum Leap Farm's First Responder Program   Michelle & First Responders

Michelle Ansley has a long history of volunteerism and has been coming out to assist the children and adult participants in our therapeutic equine programs since 2003.  Michelle recently completed her Nurse Practitioner degree and has decided to take on a great challenge to celebrate.  Michelle will be flying to Africa on April 15th to begin preparations for the 19,340 foot climb to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro.  Ever the generous soul, Michelle has decided to turn this challenge into a fundraiser for Quantum Leap Farm's At E.A.S.E. (Equine Assisted Self Exploration) program for law enforcement officers and first responders.

Quantum Leap has been working with active and veteran military service members to assist with the physical and emotional stresses they have encountered both during and after the war.  With the recent tragedies in the Bay Area with the shooting of so many police officers, Quantum Leap has been approached to expand the At E.A.S.E program to officers and first responders, whose emotional needs are often overlooked.  While there is an obvious need, there has not been funding allocated to address this need.

Michelle is hoping to raise $1.00 per foot of her climb and is using her fund raising efforts to keep motivated for the climb.  "Knowing that I am raising money for Quantum Leap Farm, an incredible organization, will help me get to my goal."

In support of Michelle's efforts, Buffalo Wild Wings in Brandon will be hosting a fund-raiser on Saturday, April 9th.  Buffalo Wild Wings will be donating 15% the proceeds to Quantum Leap Farm.  Please bring a copy of the attached flyer and present it to your waiter before ordering!

If you wish to contribute, please log onto Quantum Leap Farm's website, www.quantumleapfarm.org

Thank you Michelle and Buffalo Wild Wings, Brandon!!!

Quantum Leap Farm's Yoga  on Horseback

Yoga on Horseback

Quantum Leap Farm is offering a  new service, Equestrian Yoga, to

experienced riders.  As a comprehensive equine therapies center, Equestrian Yoga sessions dovetail naturally with our mission and open up equine therapy to a whole new population of participants.

The sessions will improve body awareness, balance, flexibility, core strength, and the connection with your equine partner. Sessions are facilitated by our Certified Yoga Instructor, Heather Zoretich, and are experienced in pairs, in the shade of our covered arena.  Half of your session will be spent on foot assisting your partner.  The other half will be spent mounted (bareback), completing a series of Yoga poses adapted for riders.  Because we have limited space, sessions are scheduled by appointment only on Saturday afternoons beginning at 2PM.  Fees are $40.00 per participant and sessions are approximately 1 1/2 hour in duration.  Refreshments are provided.

Come let our gentle therapy horses help you grow into a more sensitive, balanced, and connected partner in the saddle.  Bring a friend or allow us to pair you up with a new one.

Quantum Leap Farm selected as one of Kforce's 10 designated charities!

 Anne & Edie

Quantum Leap Farm would like to give a huge thanks to Kforce in Tampa and their employees--especially Anne Dimenn--who is also a Quantum Leap Farm volunteer extraordinaire.  Last year Anne nominated Quantum Leap Farm to be one of the designated charities that Kforce employees could choose to support in FY 2011 and 2012.  Out of all the nominated charities, Kforce chose Quantum Leap as one of the top 10.  Quantum Leap and the other 9 top charities will now receive about $3,000 from the Kforce employee "Jeans Day" pool.

Kforce employees are encouraged to get involved with their charities throughout the year, through volunteering or holding small fundraisers.  Recently, Anne held an "Ice Cream Therapy" fundraiser at Kforce to support Quantum Leap Farm volunteer Michelle Ansely's climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro in March.  Anne raised over $450.00 to support Michelle's fundraising climb to "The Rooftop of Africa."  Way to go Anne and our great corporate sponsor Kforce!

Operation Family Fun: A Resounding Success!

Quantum Leap Farm held it's quarterly Family Fun Day for military families on February 26th.  It was a gorgeous afternoon filled with lunch, pony rides, hay rides, pony painting and horsing around with arts & crafts.  This was our most successful Family Fun Day which brought 130 guests to the farm.

Our next Operation Family Fun day is scheduled for May 7th.

Circle of 100 Celebration

If you've ever walked in the Quantum Leap arena patio, you may have noticed inscribed pavers underfoot.  These pavers contain etched messages chosen by Quantum Leap donors who belong to the Circle of 100, a group of supporters who give $1,000.00 and up annually.  The Circle of 100 held their third celebration at the Farm on March 12th and enjoyed delicious hors d'oeuvres, music from guitarist John Parris, and the beauty of Quantum Leap under the stars.  If you're interested in knowing more about the Circle of 100, please call us at 813-920-9250 .  Quantum Leap thanks the Circle of 100 and all the donors of Quantum Leap Farm.

W.O.W. At. E.A.S.E. Retreat

   W.O.W. Retreat

This past weekend Quantum Leap Farm hosted it's 5th W.O.W. (Women of Warriors) Retreat.  This two day workshop is offered to the spouses of military personnel who have been injured and/or who suffer from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder).   Here are a few of the quotes from these amazing women:

"Wonderful, relaxing and it gave me a boost to keep going."

"It was fun and gave me a sense of peace."

"I loved everything to do with the horses.  I believe this is a very valuable program.  It was so important for me to see things visually.  The horses represented me overcoming obstacles in my life. Carla and Jenna are wonderful.  I have new tools to work with at home and an understanding of needing to take care of myself more.  Thank you!"
