Greetings!
This Sunday we celebrate Palm Sunday. We will hear that as the passion of Christ was drawing near, people were recognizing him more and more in public settings as the son of God. People spread their cloaks on the road so that he would pass. A woman poured a jar of perfumed oil on his head. Jesus himself said: "She has anticipated my body for burial." Yet, his disciples did not understand. People questioned why she had done this instead of trading in the oil for money to give to the poor. Christ granted her credit for following her heart after she realized who he was in that place. He replied: "Leave her alone. Why do you make trouble for her? She has done a good thing for me. The poor you will always have with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them, but you will not always have me." Let the words of Jesus be a reminder to honor him with the best that we have to give. Let them also remind us to respect the ways in which others honor him, even when we don't understand.
Please take a couple minutes to read over the events preprared for you below. We hope they will be of service to you in your journey working with youth. |

Practice Makes Catholic: Moving from a Learned Faith to a Lived Faith
It is said that practice makes perfect, but what else does practice make? If you ask Joe Paprocki, he'll say that practice makes Catholic-that is, there are certain distinct practices that make us essentially Catholic. The problem is that many Catholics don't understand-or at least misunderstand-why we engage in the many practices we do. In Practice Makes Catholic, Paprocki addresses the all-important "why" of many Catholic practices by articulating five key characteristics that form our Catholic identity: a sense of sacramentality, a commitment to community, a respect for the dignity of human life and commitment to justice, a reverence for Tradition, and a disposition to faith and hope rather than despair. Under each of these categories, he explores and explains multiple Catholic practices, then describes how following each one can make a profound difference in our faith and in our lives.
