Beyond Velodrome
With the Olympics recently concluded, most of us go back to our regular lives, blissfully indifferent to the human drama of athletic competition of those unique sports that we only look at every four years. Well, if you want to behold top class athletes engaging in their unique sport, without spanning the globe, the west side of Farmers Branch is where you want to be this weekend as the Stars & Spokes bike race brings high caliber cyclists to town, racing for prestige and prizes. But, more than that, the race benefits those that run into burning buildings when everyone else is running out, those that stand their ground when people are shooting at them. Originated in 2011 in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of 9/11, the race benefits the Texas Association of First Responders. So, while Stars and Spokes is a great opportunity to see some world-class athletes fly on two wheels, it is also an opportunity to symbolically say "thanks" to the men and women who work day-in and day-out to keep our homes and neighborhoods and communities safe. Come on out and join us!

More than 8,000 surveys were randomly mailed to Farmers Branch residences in mid-August but any resident is invited to take the survey online at www.farmersbranch.info. The survey has been conducted since 2008 and includes 27 questions, focusing on resident satisfaction with city provided services, ranging from public safety to residential trash pickup to special event offerings and more. Once compiled, the results will be compared against the surveys of 2008 and 2010, shared with the City Council and released to the public.

This update is for September 5, 2012.
IH35E: The IH35E northbound entrance ramp south of Valley View Lane was closed on Monday, August 27. The ramp will ultimately be replaced by a new ramp near Valley View. A schedule for the completion of the new ramp is not yet available.
Denton Drive: On August 27, Denton was closed between LBJ and Villa Creek until October 5. Traffic will be detoured via Harry Hines and Ford.
Josey Lane: The drainage project on Josey from Maybrook to LBJ continues with one lane closed in each direction. Following the completion of drainage work, construction of the permanent paving of Josey and the east end of Villa Creek will begin. Various lanes will be closed on Josey until December.

Marsh Lane: Pavement and bridge work will continue on the west side of Marsh south of Ridgeoak until November.
Midway Road: Both U-turn lanes are closed. Dallas Water Utilities relocation on the south side of the Midway/LBJ intersection has one lane closed in each direction. The scheduled completion of utility work has been extended until late September. Atmos will also be installing a new gas line crossing Midway south of LBJ following the water line project and is now expected to require the closure of the outside (right) lanes of Midway in both directions. All utility work on Midway is expected to be completed by mid-October.
Welch Road: The Welch Road bridge is partially reopened. The entire bridge, including both U-turn lanes, is expected to be reopened by October.
Dallas North Tollway: The bridge demolition work planned for the Labor Day weekend was complete as scheduled.
Other Locations: Various main lanes of LBJ will be closed frequently during night-time hours. There will also be intermittent night-time closures of various LBJ entrance and exit ramps. Full updates and additional information can be found at www.lbjexpress.com.
