Serving and protecting
We're going to have a different kind of Town Hall Meeting here at City Hall on Thursday evening and I hope you're looking forward to it as much as I am. Rather than the general topic roundtable, this Town Hall Meeting will afford our community the opportunity to come out and find out more about their public safety agencies and the men and women that make them work. Our Public Safety Town Hall will begin with a massive "show & tell" both outside and inside City Hall from 6 until 7 p.m. Police Chief Sid Fuller and his people will have patrol units, the converted all-terrain vehicles, skywatch tower, bike patrol officers and so much more on display. Likewise, Chief Steve Parker and the Farmers Branch Fire Department will have their new engine, an ambulance and some of the recently completed Firefighters Combat Challenge material for folks to peruse. And, these are just the high points. There will be so much more. Then, at 7 p.m., we'll start the formal meeting in City Council Chambers but it will be unlike anything you've ever seen in there before. Chiefs Fuller and Parker, along with several of their key people, will be dispensing some information and engaging in some education on their programs and procedures by way of a giant screen offering photos, video, charts and other nuggets of multimedia. Finally, at 8 p.m., Mayor Bill Glancy and the rest of the Farmers Branch City Council will open the floor for questions relating to the evening's topics or anything else of interest. It will be a meeting unlike any we've ever had before. We hope you'll join us. Click Gary's picture for background and contact info |
FARMERS BRANCH ~ Realizing the plans charted for years by many who envisioned great things for the area adjacent to the Farmers Branch DART station, a groundbreaking was held Tuesday for the Mustang Station mixed use development.
The project's developer, Western Securities, acquired the City-owned property in the station area earlier this year and will be constructing a four-story mixed-use building that will include 257 dwelling units on the upper floors. The ground floor will have up to 10,000 square feet that could be used for retail, of the 300,000 square foot total for the structure.
The ceremony and reception were held at the Jeff Fuller Rose Garden, just south of the DART station area. Mayor Bill Glancy and the members of the Farmers Branch City Council and staff were joined by leadership from Western Securities, as well as former mayors and council members in turning ceremonial soil to commence the work.
In his comments, Farmers Branch Economic Development Director John Land said the name is derived from "Mustang," the original name of Farmers Branch which was a reference to the Mustang grape that grew in the area.
Construction is expected to commence by the end of June.
