Memo from the Manager:

A Branch Bulletin Special Edition

City of Farmers Branch
August 24, 2011

A lasting legacy

A few weeks ago, I told you of a City employee whose illness has prompted a rallying of support from her extended family here at the City of Farmers Branch.
It is with a heavy heart that I must update this story.
If you've ever been to a special event in Farmers Branch, if you rocked to City Manager Gary D. Greer - BackyardREO Speedwagon at Liberty Fest or marveled at the Fourth of July fireworks or found the kid inside, yet again, at the Christmas Tree Lighting Frances Arroyo-Stoverceremony, you know the work of Farmers Branch Special Projects Manager Frances Arroyo-Stover. As a member of the exceptional Parks and Recreation Department, Frances has demonstrated a knack for the magnitude of organizational detail involved in putting on these events. And, she's deftly handled it all with a demeanor of calm reassurance, even with a hundred things going on around her.
Shortly after Liberty Fest this year, Frances entered the hospital for treatment of a serious condition. After a mighty battle against the odds, last night, our friend, Frances, departed this life leaving behind a legacy of love, compassion and an ambitious drive to succeed.
The days ahead will be exceedingly difficult for her husband John and children, John and Destinee. But the City staff, led by the Parks and Recreation Department, that has been so diligent in their collective effort to take care of the Stover family, won't stop here. Taking care of Frances' family is something our City employees will take great pride in doing. Although sheFrances Arroyo-Stover will be missed greatly, the City of Farmers Branch is a better place because Frances worked here and our lives are personally richer because she crossed our paths.
As the autumn months rapidly approach, we will be in the midst of one of our busiest event seasons in recent memory. But, the loss of our friend doesn't diminish this City staff as much as it infuses our people with pride to carry on the great work that Frances has done here.

In order to honor her life, work and legacy, I ask that all special events for the rest of 2011 be dedicated to her memory and the positive effect she had on the lives of Farmers Branch residents. Let's set record numbers for the events you see listed on the right.
   Frances Arroyo-Stover deserves no less.
