WIF Scores Big at SIFF

This month's issue is all about the Seattle International Film Festival, which starts Thursday, May 17th and runs through June 10th.  We're here, we're there, we're everywhere!  The women of WIF Seattle are rocking the festival, and to prove it, we're using our regular "Featured Member" column to honor our many members. Read on to find out more about these lovely ladies and the films they'll be showing at the festival. For WIF film times and other special events, check schedules here. Tuesday, May 22: WIF Sponsors Ira Finkelstein's Christmas and Reception for the Filmmakers

Every year, WIF sponsors a film created by women filmmakers.

Ira - Now Playing at SIFF

This year, WIF is excited to announce that our sponsored film is Ira Finkelstein's Christmas, premiering on Tuesday May 22 at SIFF's The Uptown. Sue Corcoran serves as Director, Producer and Co-Writer of this smart, subversive family comedy. Other WIF credits on the film include Susan LaSalle, Jane Charles, Producers; Mark Simon, DP; Steve Colgrove, Gaffer; Teresa Majeres, Key Grip; Cindy Sangster Editor; Vincent Gates, Location Sound/Post Sound and Music, and Dave Howe of Bad Animals Post Sound, among others.  WIF will be hosting a reception for Sue and her gang at the restaurant Ten Mercer at 8:45 pm after the screening on Tuesday. If you haven't seen this film, shot in snowy "Christmastown" (Leavenworth), Washington, you're missing out, so be sure to join us in the fun.

Opening Night Fun - Oscar Style

Opening Night at SIFF is about as close as we get to The Oscars around here, so don't forget to look for WIF Seattle's "booth" in the Exhibition Hall at SIFF's opening night this Thursday, May 17. We'll be celebrating "Oscar style" with professional photographer Laurie Clark and a step-and-repeat WIF background. Come practice for the Oscars and get your "glam" opening night photo (or not so glam, it is Seattle, after all) as a keepsake. Bring your friends, the more the merrier!

Indie Filmmaking: What You Need to Know NOW

Maybe you've got a winning idea...but how do you make sure your script ever sees the light of day? How do you navigate your precious film baby through the shark-infested waters of distribution? What about legal? The world of indie filmmaking is changing by the day - it's time to bone up on the "new normal". Join WIF, SIFF and Northwest Screenwriter's Guild for their co-hosted forum on the subject Saturday, May 26th at 1 p.m. Last year's audience called it one of the best forums at SIFF. More information--  including details on the esteemed panelists -- is here.

KCTS Offers SIFF Award

What's your pleasure -- money or prestige? KCTS is now offering Northwest filmmakers the chance to claim BOTH through its new "Reel NW Award," which singles out a feature-length documentary for a $2500 cash grant and possible exposure via the award-winning KCTS program Reel NW.  Read on to find out how to get your project in the spotlight.
