An opportunity is defined as "an appropriate or favorable time or occasion to act."
All of us are afforded opportunities that have little or no impact on our lives, while there are other times when the opportunities offer an eternal regret or reward!
One of those times of opportunity is in witnessing and sharing the Gospel with others.
Jesus tells us in John 9:4 "I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work." We simply do not realize the potential of a missed opportunity.
Dr. Jimmy Allen, former pastor of First Baptist Church, in San Antonio, Texas sadly tells of such an opportunity: "We missed him. Our chance to change things came and passed and we did not even know it was there. A dark-skinned little boy sat through our Sunday School classes for three years at First Church, San Antonio...but someone missed him! His name was Sirhan Sirhan, and at age 24 he shot and killed Senator Robert Kennedy. In a welter of words and the shudder of grief throughout our nation, the persistent thought keeps recurring in my heart...someone missed him! "
We must realize that there has never been a more appropriate or favorable time for us to reach others with the Gospel message!
I thank God for the many opportunities that He has given to GPBC in the ministry of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Our Sunday School, Children's Churches, Bus Ministry, Prison and Jail Ministry, Television Ministry, the Deaf Ministry as well as the regular services here at GPBC every Sunday morning, Sunday Night and Wednesday night!
Jesus said, "I must be about my father's business!" So must we! As your Pastor may each of us determine not to miss the opportunities that God gives to us! Let us remember, "Unto whom much is given....much shall be required." Please take advantage of the opportunity that we have here at GPBC to witness and serve God by the witnessing and discipleship of others.
It will only be after we get to Heaven that we fully understand the eternal impact that will be made in our next witness or our failure to witness! While I praise the Lord for all that we have reached...my heart still wonders "who have we missed?"
We Must Not Miss Our Opportunity!
God bless you! Preacher
