Several years ago I read a convicting story about a little boy who couldn't wait for his new baby sister to come home from the hospital. He just could not wait to be near her, to touch her and to talk to her!
His parents however, were a little cautious to allow this rambunctious little boy get so close to his newly born sister. Because he was only four years old and it did not take much for him to get a little excited, his family did not want him to
be left alone with the new baby. So they made sure that one of them was always present to supervise his visits with her.
He kept begging them to let him be alone with her! One night his parents finally relented. However, unknown to him, they stood a close watch as the little boy tiptoed into her room. He reached his sister's crib and leaning close to her ear lovingly whispered, "Sister, tell me about God - I'm starting to forget."
As we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, let us remember that being thankful helps us not to forget all that God has done for us! The Psalmist said in Psalm 103:2 "Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits."
It is good for us to take the time to remember and to remind each other of all of God's benefits to us! As we gather together around the table to enjoy a delicious feast, let us tell each other again about God's goodness and blessings on us!
Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to reflect and to tell the story again of how God came to us in Jesus Christ to provide for us forgiveness and eternal life!
Paul had it right, in 2 Corinthians 9:15 "Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift."
Thanksgiving is not based only on what we can hold in our hands, but also on
what we know in our heart!
I pray that each of us will remember not to forget as we celebrate this Thanksgiving!
