EC Cleveland Round Table
Stakeholders discuss energy efficiency for multifamily
and affordable housing in Cleveland.
EC Cleveland Multifamily Roundtable
Following a national engagement strategy that
included similar gatherings in California and Rhode Island, EC Cleveland organized a high-level stakeholder meeting focused on advocating for an equitable allocation of resources to the multifamily sector on January 25, 2012. Co-sponsored by the National Housing Trust, National Consumer Law Center, Enterprise, and the Benningfield Group, over 30 local, regional and national stakeholders discussed opportunities for collaboration to identify a set of regional policy priorities to create and sustain affordable, efficient, multifamily housing in Northeast Ohio. The session included presentations by the Housing and Urban Development, Department of Energy, Ohio Department of Development, Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority and Ohio Partners for Affordable Energy.

Qualified Energy Conservation Bonds Requests
ECC signed off on a letter requesting modifications to Qualified Energy Conservation Bonds (QECBs), which have enormous potential to create jobs and finance clean energy products that save energy and put Americans back to work. Unfortunately, only a handful of states and municipalities have deployed QECBs, even though qualifying projects can be financed at very low interest rates. Of the $3.2 billion allocated to states and municipalities by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, approximately 83% of these allocations remain unused.  ECC, along with over 15 other energy and environmental organizations, submitted a request to the Obama Administration to ease existing burdens by requesting the IRS to issue Temporary Regulations or a Revenue Procedure on QECBs by March 30, 2012.

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Shaun Donovan announced today that 13 communities across the U.S. will receive $3.6 million in Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grants, including $300k to Central Choice in Cleveland. Building on nearly 20 years of success through HUD's HOPE VI Program, Choice Neighborhoods links housing improvements with a wider variety of public services including schools, public transit and employment opportunities. The interagency partnership supports local solutions for sustainable, mixed-income neighborhoods with the affordable housing, safe streets and good schools all families need.
