Healthy Homes Collaboration

Weatherization Plus HealthECC President Denise Fairchild is a part of the Weatherization Plus Health initiative, a national effort presented by DOE & NASCSP to coordinate resources for energy, health, and safety in low-income homes. On September 14, Dr. Fairchild presented on Greening America's Distressed Housing: The Case for Partnerships in Atlanta, GA. The series of six regional conferences connects major players in the fields of energy efficiency, health, and safety, and will continue to Columbus, OH, Kansas City, MO, and San Diego, CA within the coming months. Dr. Fairchild will present at the Columbus Conference October 4-6.  


Cleveland Mayor's Summit2019
On September 22 and 23, Cleveland Mayor Jackson held the third annual Sustainable Cleveland 2019 Summit. The 10-year campaign was initiated for the application of sustainable principles to the design of the local economy, with each year focusing on a different fundamental area. ECC was recognized in a report by the Green Building Working Group, for targeted improvement efforts under the Better Buildings Challenge

Here's what's happening with Emerald Cities Seattle:

  • Got GreenOn September 24, EC Seattle partner Got Green publicized the needs of women in low-income communities and released a report on Women in the Green Economy: Voices from South Seattle. Their community event received great local press and brought public attention to needs for access to healthy food, green homes, green jobs, and public transportation for women in the green economy.

Right Stuff Awards

On September 21, ECC President Denise Fairchild and Applied Materials were honored at the Apollo Alliance and BlueGreen Alliance Right Stuff Awards in San Francisco. ECC founding member Joel Rogers acknowledged his "increasingly deep and abiding respect" for Dr. Fairchild in his introduction and presentation of her prestigious award. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka served as keynote speaker and also awarded Phil Angelides, Leo Gerard, and Carl Pope for their work with the Apollo Alliance & BlueGreen Alliance.

NHC ConferenceSeptember 26 - 28 marked the National Housing Conference Solutions for Sustainable Communities: 2011 Learning Conference. ECC President Denise Fairchild, CCAP Transportation Analyist Chuck Kooshian, and Matt Lister of Jonathan Rose Co. shared on "Building the Economic and Social Case for Sustainable Development Practices." ECC VP for Sustainable Development John Morrill sat alongside Madeline Fraser-Cook of LISC, Lori Bamberger, and Noreen Beatley with the USGBC, for an "Overview of Sustainable Building Practices." Both sessions were followed by in-depth Q&A and engagement in the ECC approach.
