Protecting Yourself from Possible Radiation Fallout
 

I am not one for doom and gloom but you might find it useful to know how you can protect yourself from the possible effects of this terrible disaster in Japan. The disaster in Fukushima may not be limited to just Japan.  This is a global crisis. We all share the earth so what happens on one part of our planet affects us all.   It seems there is between 8-700 times the amounts of radiation than is normal leaking out into our environment. This disaster may not be easily stopped and it does not just go away.  The radiation is right now headed over the ocean and into the jet stream of the upper atmosphere and could possibly land on the west coast of the United States and Canada. The amounts by that time will probably be small but they don't really tell us how bad it is. We don't need to get crazy and afraid because that only causes our body's immune system to weaken.  It is good to consider what we can do to protect ourselves and our families?  First you want to make your immune system as strong as possible by eating whole foods without any chemicals or preservatives. Green vegetables and green juices are especially good to boost your immune system.  There are also some addition defense measures you might consider to support your body:

 

·         Kelp and other seaweed - to boost the iodine in your system which prevents the radiation from damaging your thyroid.  Kelp has the most bio-available iodine

 

·         Ginseng - Modulates your body to remove radioactive debris 

 

·         Ashwagandha - to help the thyroid cope with stress from the radioactive debris in the environment

 

·         Sea Salt has even been show to help detox radiation. 

 

Since everything is energy, rather than sending out energy of desperation I like to remember the earth is very resilient. If we stop polluting her she will heal. Sending energy of power and healing to the earth and acknowledging her incredible ability to recover can only help.  The Japanese people are incredibly strong.  Acknowledging their resilience and determination will give them energy and strength to find their way through this terrible disaster. We can do this and still feel compassion for their pain. 

 

This terrible event can be seen as a wakeup call. There is a message here the time has come to change our nuclear energy policies worldwide. A few minutes before the disaster President Obama almost signed a bill for a billion dollars for nuclear power in our country.  If this disaster had not happened it would have gone through.  If you want to stop the insanity and contact the powers to be to say shut down or at least not go forward with the Nuclear Power plants before it is too late you can send an email to President Obama at www.whitehouse.gov/contact .  Health Benefits of Seaweed

 

 

·         Seaweed is full of minerals and trace minerals which are harder to get from land vegetables as our soils are depleted. Minerals increase metabolism.

 

·         An excellent source of magnesium, calcium and iron

 

·         Good source of Vitamin A, C, B1 and K

 

·         Contains a variety of concentrated protein and good carbohydrates

 

·         An excellent source of iodine

 

·         It has an alkaline forming effect which can assist in reducing acid in the body 

 

 

Here are some easy ways to incorporate more seaweed into your diet:

 

 Kelp contains glutamic acid that softens beans making them more digestible.  Simply add a 4" piece of kelp per pound of dried soaked beans and cook until tender.  You can also all this to rice.

 

Vegetable Sushi- Unprocessed Nori seaweed can be used to wrap rice or if you just want vegetables try alfalfa sprouts, julienned cucumber, julienned carrots and avocado. Wrap it up and  dip in some soy sauce with wasabi, yum!

 Wakame Salad with Cucumber and Ginger

 

2 oz wakame seaweed

1 large seedless cucumber thinly sliced

2 scallions sliced

¼ cup very thinly sliced red pepper

1/4 cup lemon juice

1 Tb yellow miso

1 Tb finely grated ginger

1 tsp agave

2 Tbs toasted sesame oil

1 tsp nama shoyu or soy sauce

½ tsp sea salt

 

 

Boil some water. Pour over the seaweed, soak 20 minutes.  Drain, rinse under cold water and pat dry.  Remove the tough rib from the wakame and into ½" strips. Put into a bowl with the cucumber, scallions and pepper

 

  

In a separate bowl dissolve the miso paste in the lemon juice add the ginger, agave, sesame oil, nama shoyu and salt.   Wisk together and pour over the wakame-cucumber.  Toss and serve.

Even though the pictures in the news are so terrible and I feel afraid. It is okay to relax.  I choose to know they are strong. I hold a space of love and compassion for them.

 

Even though I see so many people suffering, how can I feel good when so many are suffering?  I choose to know my fear will not help them feel better.  I can appreciate how safe I am right now and send them love and hope.
