Thailand was Amazing

I got back a few days ago and have finally recovered from the jet lag.  I took us 25 hours from the time we left the hotel in Bangkok until we landed at our house here in NY, no wonder I was so tired but the experience was so worth the traveling. Thailand was so colorful, tantilizing all the senses. I ate delicious  food, took some wonderful cooking classes and went to fabulous food markets. Thai food is not subtle, it is spicy and stiumlating. It is this spice, capsaicin, the active ingredient in chili peppers that I am going to talk about in this newsletter.
I enjoyed many temples, spent the day with the famous Long Neck Hill Tribe people, saw caves, waterfalls and so much more.  One of my great experiences was the Golden Buddha in Bangkok.  This famous Buddha was covered with clay to protect it and hide it from being stolen during a war with Burma centuries ago. It seems the monks who covered it in clay died and it's golden interior was forgotten until one day in the 1950's when this plain unattractive Buddha was being moved it fell and cracked. They would never think of throwing it out and since it was the rainy season by the morning enough of the clay had washed off revealing its beautiful golden magnificence much to everyones surprise.  This reminds me of how we have inside us a beautiful golden essence that has been covered over by our limiting beliefs, fears and self doubt. It is our purpose in life to remove those layers, which is like the clay, to allow ourselves to get back to the essence of who really are, a divine being of love and light.  EFT is one of my favorite techinques to remove the clay from the Buddha, to let our true magnificence come forward to express itself.

Popular Spice Activates Weight Loss and Improves Your Mood

The research shows eating capsaicin the active ingredient in chili peppers results insignificant weight loss without diet or exercise.Capsaicin is the compound that gives chilies their 'heat', causing a burning sensation in any tissue it comes into contact with.  Professor Jong Won Yun from Korea's prestigious Deagu University recently published a study showing capsaicin combats obesity.  He fed 2 groups of rats high fat diets.  One group also consumed capsaicin..  The rats who took the spice ate exactly the same amount of food but they lost almost 10% more body fat.  The capsaicin acts as catalyst activating changes in at least 20 proteins found in fat cells.  These activated proteins literally "shrink" fat cells.  Capsaicin actually enhances the metabolism of fat.  So this fiery substance found in chili peppers inhibits fat cell growth so you lose weight.  Several other studies also show the chilies also reduce hunger.  How much do you need to consume to make it effective?  You need to add it to your meals regularly to get the desired effect.  Chili's also are an excellent source of Vitamin D.  Other research shows long term consumption of capsaicin helps lower blood pressure, reduce inflammation in the blood vessels and improves your immunity. There are even more health benefits in chilies, a typical chili pepper packs more vitamin C than a whole orange. They are also low in sodium, and rich in potassium, vitamin A and fiber. They contain compounds that fight against heart disease, cancer and cataracts.
The powerful fire of the chili's also gives your mood a boost.  It stimulates the mouth's nerve endings, causing a burning sensation. In response, the brain releases opiate like endorphins, natural painkillers that produce a temporary high. So the more hot chilies you eat, the stronger the soothing effect. In fact, some hot-chilli lovers may just be hooked on the high.. I like to add some kind of chili such as jalapeno or red pepper flakes to at least one dish each day. 
         Cacao Chili Drink 

Mix 1 TB 100% organic cocoa powder with a bit of espresso, organic unsweetened almond milk and some cinnamon, 1/2 tsp cayenne red pepper.  Heat and serve. This is a drink not unlike what the ancient Aztecs used to make. It is a tasty brain and body enhancing drink. You get a little brain-enhancing caffeine from the espresso and theobromine (plus more) from the chocolateJan 30 article,

 brain-enhancing (and blood sugar-stabilizing) cinnamon and a fat burning, mood enhancing kick from the cayenne pepper.

 I Appreciate  My Body

 

When we focus on what is right in our life the Law of Attraction says we attract more things that are right in this moment. This goes for our body as well. When you appreciate some part of your body you like you are telling your body "yes I like you". You then become inspired to do things which make you look and feel good. You then like your body more, it is a cycle. In other words, when you want to lose weight if you can send appreciation to some part of your body it is much easier to be inspired to eat the foods which will make you look and feel your best. So why then do we tend to turn our attention to what is wrong so much of the time? Mostly I think we are afraid if we aren't constantly looking at what is wrong we won't be able to fix it. We think how can I focus on liking my body when I am overweight? What if changing your focus made you more inspired to eat the foods which allow you to be your best weight? I recommend trying at least twice a day to notice some part of your body you appreciate and why you like it. List 10 things you appreciate. You can even do more than one body part or choose different ones each day. For example:

I love my ears because...
I can hear
I can listen to music
I can watch movies and shows
I can listen to my friends and family
I can wear earrings
I enjoy the sound of the ocean
I can listen to new ideas
They make my head look balanced
