              A Note from Ingrid

During the Thanksgiving Holiday I met Brigitte Mars, a very famous Raw Food Teacher and Chef while visiting my son in Boulder, Colorado  We were so lucky to have dinner with Brigitte and her husband Tom Pfeiffer.  We ate Raw Apple Pie, Raw Cranberry Sauce, Raw Sweet Potato Casserole and much more.It was divine.

 

Brigitte informed me of the value of  Chia Seeds. I started eating CHIA SEEDS the very next day and all the extra food from Thanksgiving  moved through my system so quickly and easily leaving me feeling light and surprisingly cleansed.When you move food through your digestive system quidkly you minimize the watse matter that accumulates in the body avoiding weight gain and digestive problems.  Chia is great for this.  So now each morning after my "green lemonade" I have a Chia Fruit Smoothie and eliminatioin has never been easier or faster

 CHIA SEEDS are considered a  super food and have amazing nutritional value and medicinal properties. The name comes from the Mayan chiabaan, meaning "strengthening"  The Aztec Indians called it the endurance superfood also known as "Indian Runners' Food."  Today runners use Chia seed as a high energy endurance food. When you put a tablespoon of Chia seeds into water within an hour you will no longer have seeds but rather a natural gel. This gel is due to the soluble fiber in chia and is what makes them so great.Chia seeds have the ability to absorb 12 times their weight in water.  This only the beginning, there are so many more benefits to CHIA.

                 7 BENEFITS OF CHIA SEEDS

1.      CONSTIPATION, ACID REFLUX   Chia is good for the digestive system because it is a hydrophilic colloid. ( a watery, gelatinous, glue-like substance which form the underlying elements of all living cells). These hydrophilic colloid properties aid in the digestion of any foods that cause patients to suffer from a sour stomach. If Chia seeds become part of your regular diet you will begin to tolerate many foods which now cause you discomfort.  You get better assimilation of food and better hydration necessary for proper elimination.  

2.      PREVENTION OF SUGAR HIGHS & LOWS   The gel from Chia that is formed in the stomach creates a physical barrier between carbohydrates and the digestive enzymes that break them down so the conversion of carbohydrates to sugar is slowed down This stablilizes the metabolic changes diminishing the surges of highs and lows.  

 3.      WEIGHTLOSS    They slow down the absorption of carbs to control the appetite and reduce cravings. They make you feel full because they absorb 12x their weight in water forming a bulky gel.

4.      HIGH IN OMEGA 3    Unlike flax seed the oils from chia can be stored without going rancid and you do not need to grind them to get at the oils  Chia is the richest vegetable source for the essential omega 3 fatty acid.  These oils are needed by your body to absorb the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, & K. These fats also prevent against inflammation which causes arthritis and heart disease.  Omega 3's are important for the proper function of ADRENAL and THYROID glands. 

5.      HYDRATION   Many modern day long distance runners use these regularly.  Since it can absorb 12 times its weight in water it has the ability to prolong hydration. With Chia you retain moisture and regulate the absorption of nutrients and body fluids thus maintaining the electrolyte balance. Fluid and electrolyte imbalances occur most commonly from sweating but also from vomiting, diarrhea and high fever.

6.      MUSCLE REGENERTION for ATHLETES    Protein from Chia is absorbed very easily. This results in rapid development of tissue and growth and regeneration of tissue.  This makes it great for children, adolescents and pregnant women.

7.      HIGH IN CALCIUM    Since Chia contains the mineral boron it acts as a catalyst for the absorption and utilization of calcium by the body.

CHIA FRUIT SMOOTHIE 

 

I like soaking the chia at least a few hours and preferably overnight so the seeds are fully hydrated and do not absorb water from your  intestines.You can soak larger batches of chia and keep them in the refrigerator.  They will stay up to 5 days.  Use what you need each day. 

  

1 serving

 

2 TBS organic chia seeds

1 cup water

1 banana

1 cup fruit (berries, pineapple, peaches)

1 TB raw agave or other sweetener  

 

Soak chia seeds in water overnight.  Put all ingredients into a blender.  Blend until smooth.  Enjoy

Most of us accept stress as a way of life. If there is no safe place to express and release our stress it can show up in our body.  We do need some stress to be energized.  A moderate amount of stress can stimulate and motivate us but chronic high levels of stress affect the body negatively.   EFT is one of the most efficient ways to deal with your STRESS and the pain it causes without any of the side effects that are often associated with drugs. By being aware of your stress and using EFT tapping to reduce it you can reduce the cortisol (the fight or flight hormone) and increase the serotonin (the feel good hormone).   If you reduce your stress you will be more efficient, sleep better and feel calmer so you can enjoy your life more.  Doesn't that sound great!
