2011 Season Highlights: Women of Will, Tartuffe, King Lear, Time Stands Still(Photos by Austin Caine)
2011 was a year of "firsts" for us. We kicked off our 2011 season by staging the Southeastern premiere of Women of Will, a delightful exploration of Shakespeare's heroines, starring world-renowned Shakespeare expert Tina Packer. We then plunged headlong into a fantastic summer Shakespeare festival, featuring two highly acclaimed classical productions - Tartuffe, our first non-Shakespearean classical play, and Shakespeare's epic King Lear - as well as our ongoing education program for young people. And we wrapped up the year by being one of the first regional companies granted rights to perform Donald Margulies' Tony award-nominated drama Time Stands Still.
We are thrilled that every one of these productions received rave reviews from critics and our audiences. Producing top quality theatre continues to be an important part of our mission and we're glad people are noticing the results. These shows also reflected our trademark style of making theatre intimate and accessible, both in performance style and in pricing. We are proud to continue to offer our Shakespeare festival productions with no admission fee and also offer "pay what you can" performances for our contemporary plays.
Over 8,500 audience members saw our shows this year. Thank you - we couldn't have done it without each of you!
As we move into 2012, we're preparing to announce an exciting line up of classical and contemporary plays, including The 7th Annual Charlotte Shakespeare Festival. You'll be hearing about the plays very soon.
In order to produce this year's festival, we need to raise $8,000 from individual donors. We greatly appreciate the support our audiences have provided in past years and hope that we can count on you to make 2012 an even greater success!
If you donated in 2011, we are extremely grateful for your support. If you haven't had a chance to make a donation, please keep us in mind as you consider year-end giving. Tax-deductible donations can be made instantly online.
All of us at Collaborative Arts wish you a happy and joyous holiday season and look forward to seeing you in 2012!
