OCTOBER DIRECTOR LETTER
|
For most of us, the practice of yoga starts with a teacher. We show up, they teach us, we learn, we continue to practice, we progress.
At 8 Limbs we have always stressed the value of the diversity of teachings of yoga over the idea of one teacher or one way. As the founder of 8 Limbs this originated in my desire to be inclusive of individuals and the many different paths of yoga. There is no one teacher, there is no one way. Thus we have always encouraged and allowed the teachers at 8 Limbs to teach from their own interests and authentic voice.
In addition to providing a home in Seattle for 40 amazing local yoga teachers we endeavor to host a variety of stellar yoga teachers from around the country. This month we welcome one of my yoga teachers Rod Stryker for a Weekend Workshop on Moon, Sun & Fire at 8 Limbs Capitol Hill (in the Halo Dance Studio), October 7-9.
Read my recent blog post to hear the story of how I came to call Rod one of "My Yoga Teachers."
Rod teaches from the lineage of Tantra Yoga, is a broad and vast umbrella that contains Hatha Yoga, what we think of in the West as yoga with its physical practice. One of the meanings of the word Tantra is "to weave."
I like to think of 8 Limbs as a fabric, or tapestry, that is woven by all of us who interact at 8 Limbs neighborhood studios, on our website and others (check us out on My Yoga Online) and soon our classes on DVD. We are all teaching one another, through our words, our relationships, our smiles (or lack thereof!) as we weave through our diverse and unique lives. This fabric of variety and difference makes up 8 Limbs. You are part of that fabric.
Thank you all for 15 years of yoga in Seattle. Enjoy the 15 Days of 8 Limbs from today through our celebration event (see below).
