News from the WISCONSIN UNION THEATER

Greetings!

The 2011-2012 Season is about to begin! We're looking forward to the concert by the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble  and would love for you to read Jacob Stockinger's interview with violinist Martin Burgess. After that we offer, in quick succession, the magnificent Sweet Honey in the Rock, the Billie-Holiday-Like Madeleine Peyroux with the sometimes-funny-sometimes-socially-conscious Nellie McKay, then former Jazz Messenger Terence Blanchard and  Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, beloved by A Prairie Home Companion's Garrison Keillor. We'll write about them in the next newsletter but feel free to buy your tickets right away-they're performing in the small Morphy Hall and might sell out.

Looking forward to seeing you in the theater!

Passion, Performance, and Revolution: Sweet Honey in the Rock

Though Sweet Honey in the Rock  creates harmony by uniting many different voices, behind each voice there lies a multifaceted, multi-talented individual. They perform October 7.
 Terence Blanchard, Messenger Alumnus

If you loved one of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers' trumpet alumni, Brian Lynch, you can hear yet another, Terence Blanchard, on October 21st.

Nellie McKay: Sly Songstress with a Conscience

Nellie McKay, opening for Madeleine Peyroux October 12, mixes eccentric jazz, nostalgia, and a moral stance for a starkly unique sound.
