The Legend of Bridal Showers

The Caldwell House has hosted many bridal showers over the years. The beauty of the home conforms to the elegance of the approaching wedding.
The custom of the bridal shower is said to have grown out of earlier dowry practices, when a poor woman's family might not have the money to provide a dowry for her, or when a father refused to give his daughter her dowry because he did not approve of the marriage. In such situations, friends of the bride would gather and bring gifts to compensate for the dowry and allow the bride to marry the man of her choice. (Wikipedia)
A bridal shower is an event which allows family and friends a chance to "shower" the bride with gifts. The maid of honor and sometimes all the bridesmaids are traditionally responsible for hosting the shower. No one should be invited to the shower unless they are invited to the wedding. Unless the shower is a surprise, the bride can help with the guest list to keep this from happening.
Showers sometimes have a theme and usually games are played by the guests. The internet is full of ideas for bridal showers including themes, invitations, games and decorations.

The Legend of Baby Showers
Since The Caldwell House was built over 100 years ago, it has been the setting for many baby showers, both for the Caldwell family who called it home for generations, and in recent years.
Baby showers were traditionally given only for the family's first child and were attended by women and men. The original intent was for women to share with the expectant mother the wisdom and lessons on the art of becoming a mother, and for men to share with the soon-to-be father their wisdom on becoming fathers. (Wikipedia)
Today it is not uncommon for a parent to have more than one baby shower, such as one with friends and another with co-workers. The baby shower is also a way to honor the expectant parents and help provide for the many things needed in a baby's life.

Bridal and Baby Showers, The Caldwell Way
Planning the perfect shower is a great deal of fun, but anyone who has ever planned and hosted one can tell you that it involves plenty of hard work as well. Having a bridal or baby shower at The Caldwell House is as easy as a call to our consultants giving the date, time, number of guests and food and drink desired. After that, The Caldwell staff will do the rest. We take care of the setup, decorating, ordering the food from our caterer and setting it out, assisting the guest-of-honor and the guests, and, most appreciated of all, the cleanup. Food is elegantly served on fleur-de-lis glass dinnerware, silverware and glassware. Punch is served in our fleur-de-lis punch bowl. Coffee is complimentary and, along with the punch, iced tea, or any other beverages, is served in beautiful glassware.
Showers may be held inside the home in the front parlor with food served in the dining room. Or, for a unique venue, the lushly-landscaped West Garden Pavilion provides a garden setting.
The Caldwell Bridal or Baby Shower Package includes table linens, silk floral decorations and elegant dinnerware, as well as our knowledgeable consultants to help you plan the shower, and experienced staff to "make it all happen" according to the desires of the hostess.

News and Reviews
A review posted on BedandBreakfast.com about The Caldwell House:
We were met at the door by the proprietor whose fine hospitality was the cornerstone of our trip to Abbeville, La. We felt as a part of the family that would have lived in this fine residence 104 years ago. We will return often.
