ipl2 Receives $5,000 Grant

The ipl2 seeks to bridge the digital divide. Funded by a $5,000 Carnegie Whitney Award, the ipl2 is developing a resource that will assist small and rural libraries address, examine, and identify solutions that increase or expand digital access to information. The resource, aimed specifically at librarians in rural settings, will consist of electronic and print resources that provide information resources to people in any circumstance.

Alumni Weekend 2011 

Held annually the first weekend in May, Drexel's Blue and Gold Days are a great opportunity for alumni to visit Drexel's campus and the iSchool, reconnect with one another, and see what's changed at the University.

This year was particularly exciting for the iSchool. In addition to our annual Champagne Breakfast and other events, the College was well-represented at the 2011 Alumni Awards Ceremony. BSIS graduate Michael J. Hagan (2003) was honored at with the Alumni Entrepreneur award, and BS/MS student Jamie Thompson (2011) received this year's Outstanding Student Award.

Jean MacPherson (MS, 1986) was featured in the Press of Atlantic City on the occasion of her retirement as Branch Manager of the Egg Harbor Township library in New Jersey. She began work at the library shortly after graduating from Drexel.

John Culshaw (MS, 1990), Professor and Associate Director for Administrative Services, University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries, has been selected for the Association of Research Libraries' Research Library Leadership Fellows program for 2011/2012. This executive leadership program meets the increasing demands for succession planning for research libraries with a new approach to preparing the next generation of deans and directors.

Annie Norman (MS, 1998), State Librarian of Delaware, received an Ed.D. in Innovation and Organizational Leadership from Wilmington University. Her dissertation, entitled Librarians' Leadership for Lifelong Learning, is being presented nationwide as a development model for other libraries. At the graduation ceremony held at Wilmington University on January 30, 2011, Ms. Norman also received the University's prestigious Audrey K. Doberstein Award for Leadership for her dedication to improving library services throughout the state of Delaware.

Mark L. Boxer (MSIS, 2001) was named the new Chief Information Officer of CIGNA Corp., the Philadelphia-based health insurer. Mr. Boxer worked most recently as Group President of government health care for ACS/Xerox and as Global Deputy Chief Information Officer for Xerox Corp. He also worked as Chief Information Officer at WellPoint Inc., in addition to other IT executive roles.

Gary M. Childs (MS, 2001), Education Librarian for Health Sciences Libraries at Drexel University, received the 2010 Drexel University Hahnemann Physician Assistant Program's Nathaniel Alston Service Award. The Award is given each year to a recipient to recognize "numerous contributions to the development of physician assistant students and exemplary support of the Physician Assistant Program and its mission."

Morris C. Martin (BSIS, 2004) became Director of Product Marketing and Strategy for ClearSaleing, an advertising analytics and attribution management company headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. Prior to ClearSaleing, Mr. Martin served as a Senior Analyst within Microsoft's Atlas Institute. He is also a frequent speaker and panelist for digital advertising conferences.

Dr. Delia Neuman Named APSL's 2011 Librarian of the Year

The iSchool at Drexel, College of Information Science and Technology is pleased to announce that Dr. Delia Neuman, Associate Professor and Director of the School Library Media Program, has been named the Association of Philadelphia School Librarians' (APSL) 2011 Librarian of the Year.  According to the award announcement, her librarian peers at Philadelphia schools unanimously voted to present Dr. Neuman with the award.

Contribute to a Special Scholarship Fund in Memory of Student Ethan Greer

Together, as an iSchool community we still mourn the loss of student Ethan Greer. 

To honor his memory, the College in conjunction with his family, has established a scholarship in Ethan's name. The "Ethan Greer, Drexel University Computing Academy (DUCA) Scholarship" will be awarded to a high school student pursuing a computing learning experience through our summer academy DUCA.   www.drexel.edu/duca
