MS(LIS) Granted Continued Accreditation Status by the American Library Association
|
The iSchool at Drexel is celebrating more than 80 years of ALA Accreditation. The American Library Association's Committee on Accreditation elected to grant continued accreditation status to The iSchool at Drexel, College of Information Science and Technology's Master of Science in Library and Information Science (MS).
The College first received accreditation for its fifth-year bachelor of science in library science (LIS) when the association began offering accreditation in 1924/25. Its evolving educational programs in LIS have maintained full accreditation ever since, making it one of the longest continually accredited library and information science programs in the nation. The iSchool at Drexel looks forward to a successful 2011 as we move forward with the development of new programs and initiatives. Here are just a few highlights expected in the upcoming year.
Architect Selected for Rush Building Expansion
Jacobs/Wyper Architects LLP, a renowned Philadelphia architectural firm, has been selected to design the planned Rush Building expansion, with new designs to be unveiled this winter. Read more
Coming Soon: New Master of Science in Health Informatics
The iSchool at Drexel has proposed a new, online Master of Science in Health Informatics (MSHI), expected to launch in Fall 2011. Read more

2010 Perspectives
|
We are proud to share with you our accomplishments from last year. In 2010, The iSchool at Drexel:
- Received $1.5 million in new research funding. Thus far in FY10, iSchool faculty have brought in significant research funding. Fifty percent of the faculty research proposals are collaborative with other colleges, over 125 unique external research collaborators and partners, both domestic and international.
- Expanded access to healthcare information through the IHI. The Institute for Healthcare Informatics (IHI) is an initiative supported by the iSchool, the College of Nursing and Health Professions, the School of Public Health, and the College of Medicine, and is housed at the iSchool.
- Merged two of the world's largest and most recognized digital libraries.The Internet Public Library and Librarians' Internet Index have merged to become the ipl2.
- Excited high school students about opportunities in the computing field through DUCA. Drexel University Computing Academy is a five-week residential summer experience that exposes high school students to all computing degree programs at Drexel University.
- Reached out to industry leaders, exploring new opportunities in research and collaboration. The iSchool has hosted the first of its kind Industry/University Roundtables entitled: Evidenced-Based Decision Making: Overcoming Solution Underload Amid Data Overload.
