Allison Hollett
Allison is a WPS Parent and Director of Sales and Marketing for books at The Taunton Press in Newtown, CT. Since 1975, the Taunton Press has created magazines such as Fine Cooking, cookbooks such as Ellie Krieger's award winning cookbook, "The Food You Crave," and bestselling home design author Sarah Susanka, creator of The Not So Big House series. This dedication, combined with the partnership of expert, "hands-on" authors, describes why Taunton's publications uniquely inform and inspire millions of people every year.
Allison will be talking to students about how a book is created from the first idea, design, marketing and right through how it gets to the shelf at Barnes & Noble!

Her current book, Tweet Hearts will be available for $8.00 in the office next week. Students are
encouraged to read the book prior to Elizabeth's visit to develop
questions and spark dialogue about the book.

Dan Degnan
Winston Prep Schools' CFO will discuss his journey of becoming a writer. A winner of the , Dan is a fiction writer and was recently awarded the Maureen Egen Writers Exchange Award as an emerging writer in the NYC literacy community. He holds a BS in Art and Design from MIT and an MFA in creative writing from Sarah Lawrence.

Sarah Darer-Littman
A WPS parent, Sarah is a author of books for teens and tweens. such as Confessions of a Closet Catholic, Purge, and her recent publication, Life, After. Sarah will also be sharing information about her upcoming book, Want to Go Private?, due to release in August 2011. In addition to young adult books, Sarah also indulges her adult voice as a columnist for the Stamford Advocate and Greenwich Time.
In order to encourage literacy and promote dialogue during the presentation, Sarah's book, Confessions of a Closet Catholic will be available in the Front Office for purchase.

Dear WPS Families,
We hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful fall weather and sunshine!
We had a wonderful time Friday night with raffle winners, James Gross and Matt Meehan, and their lucky friends, Jules Starn, Jake O'Hara and Max Shoetz. Students enjoyed an evening of bowling, Hibachi and movies with Ms. Sugerman, Ms. Lichaa, Ms. Sebastian and myself. It was a fun-filled evening for all!
As a reminder, there will be no school this Monday, October 11 in observance of Columbus Day.
We hope to see everyone on Sunday for our annual Juvenile Diabetes Walk at Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk. T-shirts will be sold for $10. If you have not already signed up please see details at the end of this email. Donations are always appreciated and can be submitted on our sign-up page on the JDRF website.

Frost Valley October 20-22

In order for your child to attend this trip, please make sure all forms are in as soon as possible. If you are in need of new forms please visit the "Download Center" in the top left corner of this email to download these forms.
Important Information:
The Frost Valley Written Doctor and Parent Permission Form must be signed by a parent and Physician.
All medication must be provided in original prescription bottles (weekly and daily dispenser are not accepted by Frost Valley).
Nurses disperse medication in the Frost Valley Medical Center.
Students do not need to pack a sleeping back as linens will be provided by Frost Valley.

Wednesday, October 13- (All Day) CPR Training for Juniors & Seniors
In order to better prepare our juniors and seniors as young adults we are providing them with CPR training from the American Red Cross who has trained various WPS faculty members. Students will be informed today.
Wednesday - Friday, October 20-22- (Overnight) Frost Valley Trip
Friday, October 29- (1:30 pm) Halloween Party
Monday, November 1- 'Wilman' Steve Brill
Naturalist and author, Steve Brill will be meeting with science classes and exploring the grounds as to the natural uses of plants, shrubs, and trees in connection with the chemistry curriculum as well as literature, and the start to medicine and natural remedies.
Tuesday, November 2- Professional Day (No School)
Wednesday and Thursday, November 10-11 Parent Conferences (Half Day) WPPA Book Fair
We look forward to seeing you during parent conferences and hope you have a chance to stop by our Book Fair sponsored by Booktopia of Norwalk.
Prior to parent conferences you will be receiving your child's fall report describing our observations, learning profile specifics, and objectives/goals for the year in detail. Information regarding parent conference times will be provided later this month.

Thank you to families who have signed up for the Read-A-Thon! There is excitement in the air and it's not too late to sign up. Here's how to do it:· Log onto www.smartkidswithld.org· Scroll down the page and click on "Join the Smart KidsŪ Read-A-Thon". It's next to the Henry Winkler video clip. · On the Read-A-Thon page, select "Join the Read-A-Thon" from the navigation bar at the top of the page.
· Fill out the "Begin registration" page, as requested, then select the
team name (Zeta Literature, Gamma Literature, etc.) and follow the
instructions.
