Volume 6, No. 1

Greetings!

The USDA recently sent out a press release saying that more farmers markets are expanding to winter operation. The Emporia Farmers Market is proud to be leading the way in our second season of year-round operation. We are fortunate to be a part of a community that believes in good food and believes in supporting the local farmer.

We would like to take a moment to thank YOU, our loyal market customer, for another great year for the Emporia Farmers Market. We are excited to be able to start 2012 the right way with another Indoor Winter Market this coming Saturday, January 7, starting at 10 am. Friends of the Farmers Market are preparing some delicious homemade soups for lunch and we will enjoy the music by Jane McCoy and Bill Ihling.

2012 is a significant year for the Emporia Farmers Market as it marks our 30th year of operation. We've come a long way since that first season in 1982 where a dozen vendors sold a total of $4,789 in produce.

We are in the midst of planning our calendar of events for the year. We'd love to have your input. If you have ideas for events or would like to participate as a market vendor or volunteer, now is the time to get in touch. Email me at [email protected] with your thoughts and input.

Also, please watch your inbox for some news on EFM email newsletter list cleaning. We will be updating our free e-newsletter options and clearing out some of the email addresses which are likely out of date. Your reply will be requested soon, so please watch for that to arrive as a separate email.

See you Saturday!

Live Music by Jane McCoy & Bill Ihling

Music will be provided at Saturday's market by Jane McCoy and Bill Ihling. Jane and Bill are two Emporia-based musicians who combine their talents for an eclectic mix of songs from several diverse genres: old and new country to 60s pop to classic "Americana" and contemporary. Their voices combine to produce a lovely and distinctive harmony, while Jane's cello adds a whole new dimension to the typical "acoustic guitar duo" sound.
