Miss Wheel Chair USA returns to Surf Again at Wrightsville Beach

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. - Personal victories in spite of the odds are the inspiration for two special surf events coming to Wrightsville Beach this month.

August 7:   They Will Surf Again (Spinal Cord Injuries)

August 19:  Surfer's Healing (Children With Autism)

Men, women and children with spinal cord injuries return to Wrightsville when Life Rolls On makes its annual pit stop in North Carolina for "They Will Surf Again," this Saturday, Aug. 7, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Public Beach Access No. 4.

More than 100 volunteers and surfers will meet, greet and surf with brave wave riders as they journey into the ocean to experience the thrill of surfing, some for the first time.

Heather Allely of Wilmington, in a wheel chair for 18 years, rode on the back of her husband Bill to surf for the first time last year. "I'm ready to go out again," Allely said. Miss Wheel Chair USA, Erika Bogan will also return to Wrightsville Beach to surf again.

They Will Surf Again, the nationwide flagship program for Life Rolls On, a division of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation is an awe-inspiring day of action-packed wave riding. It's not just about the surfing. It's about pushing the limits.

Wrightsville Beach is one of only 10 locations coast to coast, to host "They Will Surf Again." Live music by The Noseriders and Warriors of the Atlantic will be performed with solar powered generators from Coyle Industries. Spectators are welcomed to witness this amazing event.

Later this month, Surfers Healing comes to Wrightsville Beach when the international surfing community reaches out to families of children with autism.

Inspired by Isaiah Paskowitz, son of pro surfer Israel Paskowitz, Surfers Healing Camps are hosted in Hawaii, California, Mexico, Puerto Rico and East Coast towns like Wrightsville Beach.

Families travel across North Carolina for this  free event to witness the unequaled excitement as these children surf for the first time. Experience a miracle. Volunteer to lend a hand, Saturday, Aug. 19 at the Stone Street Beach Access.

Both events are coordinated by IndoJax Surf Camp and Ocean Cure. Visit www.oceancure.org.
