As part of the Innovative Technology Educator Awards Program, sponsored by the Edison venture fund, the Hammonton High School Tech Department will be holding a multifaceted workshop on a varied selection of relevant topics in construction. General construction princples, building codes, insulation and weatherization of houses will be reviewed,as well as Green house building, design and energy concerns.
The workshop includes dinner and the chance to construct a scale model. The scale model can then be used as tool in the classroom to talk to students about passive solar orientation, the importance of insulation and the need for weatherization.
Also, the model can then be used to tie in scientific experiments to show students heat gain/heat loss, and thermal mass/ thermal storage. At the conclusion of the workshop the presenters will conduct a rap up and present interecolliage opportunies in our content area. All resources will be made available to attendees both digital and hardcopy.
