Little Ana
A thin, filthily-clad 11-year-old girl entered the Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, restaurant where Mexico-Hispanic Field Director Don Nellis sat. Her lice-infected hair was nearly hidden under a dirty cap. The waitress, whom Don had led to the Lord previously, explained, "Her name is Ana. She comes in now and then and we give her a piece of bread or a doughnut."
"Where's your mom?" Don asked when Ana emerged from the restroom.
Ana looked him straight in the eye. "In jail."
"Where's your dad?"
"I don't know."
"Where do you sleep?" Ana pointed to the street.
It was December 2008. The Holy Spirit burdened Don's heart (and that of his wife, Janie) and set in motion prayer and planning. He graciously directed in the development of "Ana's Kitchen," a ministry that now feeds both bodies and souls of street people, mostly children. Some have trusted Christ, and a segment of Christ's Body has begun to meet in Ana's Kitchen in recent months.
Addicted to drugs, "Little Ana," as she became known, appeared at the facility occasionally. Although she heard the Gospel numerous times, she refused to accept God's free gift of salvation. For three years many prayed for her. Don and Janie sought to visit her each time they were in Guadalajara. She was often found lying on the sidewalk at a busy intersection.
Don's burden for Little Ana increased. At his urging, Salvador Caro, a member of UIM's Mexico Board and one of UIM's field missionaries, set out to look for LIttle Ana. He found her and again lovingly presented the Good News of Jesus' love for her and told her Jesus wanted to save her from her sins and give her eternal life, but she must first trust in Him. With Spirit-prepared heart, Little Ana trusted Christ as her Savior! What joy! She needs prayer now more than ever! Will you join those already praying for her? Satan does not let go easily, but God is able!
