What Will Your Summer Story Be?
Summer time is life-changing. There's just something about it. Things are somehow "different" during the summer, especially for young people and the young at heart.
There are, of course, the self-indulgent types, living only for their own personal fun and adventure. Those are not the ones I have in mind. The ones I am thinking about are those who, in planned and unplanned ways, invest in a week or a month and then come out the other side with a heart and life transformed into a career of service. Years later they find themselves in awe of what God did those many years ago and what He's continued to do as the years unfolded into a tapestry of His handiwork. Wow! How did that happen?
Delight in this issue of UIM Connection! to read the personal account of two lives who have had such an adventure of transformation at the hand of God in Jerry and Cara Holm. A simple summer of ministry opportunity became for them a life lived for Christ, touching lives in beautiful British Columbia, Canada.
This summer, from B.C. to Quebec, from Washington state to New Mexico, from central to southern Mexico, UIM will be reaching indigenous boys and girls with the Gospel, while a select group of volunteers give of their time and talents - and loss of sleep and selfishness - to see lives changed, as theirs is changed, too.
There will be camping and camp meetings; there will be day-camps and stay-camps. There will be a lot of activity and travel. And, of course, there will be a cost. There will be a need for you to connect with us by prayer and faithful gifts. Thank you for keeping connected with us!

Ministry Opportunities
Shortly after Jerry and Carla Holm were married, they believed the Lord was leading them to participate in UIM's Summer Missionary Opportunities (SMO) program in British Columbia, Canada. They already knew He wanted them involved in ministry with Native American/First Nations People, so they thought that would be a good place to start. Once they were accepted for the eight week program, God taught them many truths about Himself. They trusted him for the finances and strength they needed to make the trip.
The week-long orientation was held at Rock Nest Ranch in Houston, British Columbia. The orientation introduced them to UIM, the Canadian field, and the Summer Missionary Opportunities (SMO).
After orientation they were assigned to two reserves on Fraser Lake. Their ministry there began with a week-long Vacation Bible School in the Stellat'en Village on the west end of Fraser Lake that included both adults and children. By the end of October they had been accepted for full-time service. Upon arriving on the field, they received permission to settle in the Nadleh Whut'en village on the east end of Fraser Lake. Over the years they have been able to hold kids' Bible Clubs in Nadleh and Stellat'en, they have seen many kids attend Rock Nest Ranch Bible Camp, and they have held various adult Bible Studies. Jerry serves as both the chairman and corresponding secretary for the Short-term Missions, which used to be the Summer Missions Opportunity program of UIM International, Canada,. Those who serve in Canada continue to ask the Lord of the Harvest to send forth laborers to serve at Rock Nest Ranch and out in village or urban areas.
There are many opportunities for service under the short-term ministries program. Ministry needs at Rock Nest Ranch consist of cabin counselors, male and female; maintenance staff; kitchen staff; and construction staff for the lodge. There are many other opportunities to serve in area villages and among Native urban populations in the form of VBS programs, visitation, Bible studies, and building relationships that honor Christ. Are you AVAILABLE for short-term or life-long service?
