Greetings!
Summer summer summer... It's hot and humid--- my house is under construction --- my studio is currently in a storage unit--- and projects I thought would be finished by now are crawling along inch by blessed inch. Yeah, yeah, sometimes it be that way.... But wait! There's more...

True Confessions
Never say never...
never say never

Truth is, I've been in a nihilistic funk lately. Hey, Atlas, I know how you feel!-- oh, the futility-- why bother? Nothing ever gets done...

Now, I've been around long enough to know that this is just a mood I'm susceptible to-- kind of like a head cold. So I just keep going and wait for it to pass; meanwhile, I'll try not to sneeze on you.

But what can I tell you in this newsletter? Lots is happening, but not too much is finished. Maybe next month...

My friend and Tailgate Market neighbor Deanne suggested I share an inspirational quote, and as it happens, this one-- so apropos-- was fresh in my mind:

"Whatever you do may seem insignificant to you, but it is most important that you do it."  Mohandas Gandhi

Faeries in the News
Becca the Humorous
Becca

In our continuing series on faeries-at-large, meet Becca Steinhoff. Becca is not only a beloved member of the Gnarlicorn clan, she is a stand-up comedian finishing up her bachelors at UNC Asheville before taking the world by storm with laughter and entertainment. If you were at our book launch in June, you may have met Becca as she videotaped the festivities.

It's hard not to enjoy the hilarity that ensues when Becca wants to entertain. Becca's been a regular performer at Tomato Tuesdays at the New French Bar in Asheville, and she'll be co-hosting the TedxNGA (Tedx Next Generation Asheville) show at the Orange Peel on Saturday August 28th, from 3 to 7. And, of course, look for Becca in the pages of Greenward Turn!

Art in Bloom
Art In Bloom 2010
Image

The fourth annual Art in Bloom exhibit was held at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts on June 17-20. This years exhibit was as fresh and delightful as ever.

It was a pleasure to photograph the exhibit and events, which included a fashion show and a garden tour. I've recently finished editing the book commemorating the exhibit. The book will soon be on sale at the Center for the Arts. All proceeds will benefit the Black Mountain Center for the Arts.
Nine Prayers
9 Prayers Reprise
artwork

This image is based on a sketch for a fiber work I completed several years ago. I thought of it recently when I pulled the tarot card 9 of Cups, signifying dreams come true. First and foremost, I had to acknowledge that although I was feeling anxiety in that moment, truly I live a life filled with happiness and blessings.

The leaf used is that of a "prayer plant", so named because the leaves fold together at night like hands in prayer. My 9 Prayers for you are Health, Happiness, Peace, Prosperity, Love, Laughter, Longevity, Friendship and Freedom.

Next month I hope to tell you more about my new website (yes, that too is under construction), a few new products that haven't made it onto the website yet, the upcoming release of the 2011 Almanac, and a couple of other projects I'm working on.

Meanwhile, remember, in the words of Steve Wright,
"Everywhere is within walking distance if you have the time."

Sincerely,

Mary Lounsbury
