Project Profile

Schwab LLC recently completed the renovation of the Emergency Department at Winona Health, home of the new Aquillon ONEŽ, billed as the world's most advanced CT scanner.

Within the confines of a restricted footprint and with the collaboration of department stakeholders, a design was developed that allowed optimum space for the new equipment.  It was important that access to the scanner was available equally to the Emergency Department as well as non-emergency patients since over half of the patients that needed the service originate in the emergency department.

Consequently, the security and egress issues played a large part in the design and implementation of the plan. In addition to the scanner and control rooms, additional space accommodates a changing area, waiting space and a reading room.

Work included the relocation of some existing support areas and demolition and rebuilding of the new suite, including the mechanical, electrical and data transmission systems.  The project work occurred immediately adjacent to the ambulance entrance with no disruption in service.

The project was completed on time (within a 13 week schedule) and on budget.
